Right love the idea of these types of programmes, films and books ( into the wild, bear gryls etc )

I know this is a blatant copy of survivor man in the US.

Couple of questions, how is he using equipment with batteries without outside help ?

He was cooking on a dutch oven ( no farts in a blanket here ) but those things are seriously heavy, didn;t see him trekking with it ?

Electric bear fence ?????????????????????????????? batteries ?????????????/ were was that little beauty stashed ?

Fishing rod look to be a nice length, three piece etc where was that stashed ?

Hope it is good though.

I enjoyed that first episode and will be watching with interest. It all appears to be explained here as to how it's made. All seems legit to me, and is an interesting concept. I like how Channel 4 are not afraid to take on something a bit 'out of the ordinary' such as this - it certainly makes a change from most of the dross reality TV.

That guy has balls though. I think I'd go mad after a month of complete isolation - will be interesting to see how he copes and changes over three months. The bears would also get to me; couldn't possibly sleep properly with that looming over you. I know he has a gun to protect himself, but he's also surrounded by dense woodland with plenty of hiding spaces. If a bear sees him and decides it's a bit peckish, then he's only going to have a matter of seconds to get off a couple of rounds. Personally, I'd be camping in the most exposed area I could find - at least you've got a chance of seeing them before they're on top of you!

I just had a look at that, seems that he has two car batteries and keeps them topped up with solar panels.

After watching that seems pretty legit.

Thought he was a bit hammy on the programme but when i watched the behind the scene shorts i believe in it and him a lot more.

Looking forward the the rest of it.

Love the bit where he was wary of the "big rat" then took a bite and was immediately pleased.

I enjoyed it.

I prefer this to the Bear Gryls style were he 'survives' for a couple of days with no support, this guy has a bit more equipment but 3 months is a long time, especially when it come to staying sane with no-one else around and staying properly nourished over that period of time.

Next couple of episode should get alot more dramatic.

I loved this....thought the "blair witch" style would grate but it made me feel as though i was there. With Bear Griles (sp?) you know he's got crew and suppprt all over the place and lots of "set up" situation. This felt very real.

He has a great style for this sort of show...lots of "i dont knows" and "an expert told me"...as opposed to normal "this what you must do, i'm a pro, blah, blah"

Best bits for me where his crying when he saw the plane (brought home the reality of it), lots of "hellllo mr bear" and the porcupine....ruined his moose stalking....so he ate it!

Because he doesn't know.

Ray Mears and Bear Grylls know what they are talking about when they talk about something.

i know...thats what i like. having bear tell me you can eat the arse off a south american swap toad (and then doing so) or having the fat bloke tell me that the leaf he's just found was used 5000 years ago by the ugachuck tribe to ward of evil is not as fun as watching this guy just say "i dont know...and the panic about the shadow he just saw in the trees and try to work out if he should shoot at it or yell hello mr bear again"

He's "Alone" in the Wild. With a cameraman, soundman, director, some locally hired help to carry the equipment and a Land Rover for all the equipment.

Slightly disingenuous - read this link if you didn't already. Granted support is just a couple of hours away, but it only takes a couple of minutes to get into some serious bother. To all intents and purposes, he really is alone...

I wish he would stop fking moaning. What happened to the stiff upper lip?
Its as if he is just moaning so there is something to film. Here is an idea say something interesting.

I missed teh begining but also have questions about how he is carrying all his stuff. Also one minute he seems to have a shotgun next minute he has a scoped rifle on his pack. is he carrying two and all the amo for both as well?

I'm sure he is carrying his own kit.

My questions though would be:

Now he has moved how is he delivering the tapes to be collected?

Where did his canoe go?

Why is he so rubbish at fishing wink ?

What amazes me is how he's hungry, a gun for every occasion and a fishing kit, the best he can get is three sticklebacks?

I'd be in that wood shooting the first thing I saw!

1 - Eh? What tapes for collecting. It's not live like Big brother and he's not actually there right now....is he?

2 - Left it at the last lake as presumably he'll make his way back there to get picked up?

3 - God knows, I wondered this as well. He's got a rifle, shotgun, lots of snares and a decent load of fishing gear and can't catch anything to eat in one of the healthiest and most wildlife rich places on earth frown

I too was wondering why he can't seem to catch anything. Surely if he simply spent the day stalking, he could bag a few birds and rabbits with the shotty and rifle. Couple of hours around dawn and dusk and you could have enough food for a couple of days. Still, we don't know how much ammo he's carrying. Considering the weight and bulk involved, he may only have enough ammo to defend himself, not to hunt with?

Another issue, dead animals will attract other animals, and that could mean bears. So kill it, cook it eat it, then go back to camp I reckon..

Good point, you'd certainly want to be gutting the animals well away from camp. That said, if you gutted the rabbits, washed them in the river and then wrapped them up properly, you could probably carry them around for the day without too much chance of attracting Mr. Bear.

Yeh.

What would be annoying though, killing a moose or something, huge amount of meat, but you can only eat one fills worth as nowhere to store the bloody carcass!

He ha lost a lot of weight though, but seems still to have some upper body muscle.
