I've posted before that I collect rare US coins.... well tonight I managed to, via an internet auction, royally f*ck up to the tune of over $1,700! eek

I was bidding (And watching patiently for) this coin:

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1...

I won it for $1,000 which was, for this coin (Which is extremely rare) a good price. A Mint State one just sold for over $60,000.

Well, their site showed I was being outbid, so I threw a $1500 bid on the coin and realized that while their site was showing the image and description of the above lot...

I am now the proud owner of THIS coin as well.. for $1,500 plus 15% premium.

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1...

I'm none too pleased.... Not sure if I am p1ssed off at Heritage or myself at this point.

still, the peripheral russet, gold, and blue toning is rather pleasing to the eye.

Sounds like their website was wrong, so you complain and don't pay, Shirley?

You were bidding $1000 on one coin and were winning. But their website said you were being outbid and so you increased your bid to $1500 but the bid got placed on a completely different coin and you ended up winning both?

Is that what happened? I'm a bit confused!

I agree with DangerousMike on this one, and he's normally correct on stuff pre 1910, however one drawback on coins like this struck in '03 is the strike is weak at the usual points, especially at the right side of the shield and the adjacent wing.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong.

Blimey Charlie!

And mine is like new.

Shame it's for my 7 year old to have when she is 18yo.

Bump... funny story, turns out I knew the underbidder who was ticked off he lost the coin! A call o the auction company sorted the mess out, turns out the reason I was able to get the coin I wanted so cheaply was because of software issues..

So I have a registry set of these going on... There's 11 holes in the set, but I have 5 coins out for grading and just bought 3 more smile

You guys might get a chuckle as to what I named it.. haha
