Looking at a 6 yr old Golf with 72k miles. When going from power on to power off the gearshift moves back and foward as the torque load changes.

Is this normal or would I be looking at a gearbox bill shortly?

Thanks for any help

Is there a 'clunk' when you do this? It could be a worn engine mount, if it only moves an inch then it's probably ok.

As above - if it isn't jumping out of gear then I'd look at the engine mounts - probably the whole engine is rocking about as you go on and off the throttle.

Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate your taking the time to reply.

No clunk, and moving only an inch or so. Seems like the engine mounts.

Is it important to get the engine mounts renewed or can I leave this without causing a problem?
