Hoping someone can help me with a problem I have on my E60.

I had a dent removal company see to a small ‘ding’ on the drivers door (they did a great job!) on Wednesday. Yesterday when I put the window down there was a ping and from then the outside door handle wouldn’t work. A friend of mine with a body shop fixed that this morning - it was just a small clip which was dislodged and then knocked out by the window.

However, in the process the door card had to be removed and with it the airbag connecter was disconnected. I was there all the time and it really is very straightforward.

As soon as this happened a message came up on iDrive warning of a restraint fault.

The airbag was reconnected but the warning remains. It needs to be reset by BMW.

My local dealer has no waiting slots for ages and the only other option of to leave the car for a day (no loan cars available and the dealership is half an hour away).

Does anyone know how this can be reset via iDrive?

I am 100 per cent comfortable that all is working - it is simply a case the car being setup to only allow a stealer to reset things such as this.

HELP!!

Do you have CD and DVD drives? I believe for the M5/M6 you can push in the volume button while simultaneously pressing both the CD and DVD eject buttons to reboot the iDrive. Could be the same process?

Yes I have both CD and DVD drives - just tried it and the system appeared to reboot but the warning message remains.

Thanks anyway.

Any other suggestions welcome!!!!!!!

Needs to be reset at a dealer.

You could be honest and tell them what happened and pay them, or you could say it came on while driving and they will scan and reset it for you probably for free.

I would guess most small garages will have an airbag reset tool.

Lie? To a dealer?

Surely the building would cave in if an untruth were muttered in a stealership?

Thanks for the feedback - I'll perhaps drop by one of the dealers in the area and see if there is anyone free to quickly scan and reset.

On the off chance anyone has this problem in the future I thought I'd update the thread.

Went to Blue Bell BMW in Crewe this afternoon - no appointment, just dropped in.

They took the car into the workshop, spent 30 mins or so runnings checks etc and reset the fault code. They also confirmed some of the earlier posts that there is no way of resetting via iDrive yourself - even for them it took a little time.

Free of charge - fair play to them I say.
