I have just booked 2 spaces on the Land Rover experience at Chilterns. Has anyone been on any of these and what can I expect. Whilst on my 3rd Land Rover I have never done any serious off-roading (...go on slap me) We will be using a D3 which will be interesting as I went to see about a new D4 the other day. I currently drive a D2 with a little bit of JE engineering magic.
I was lucky that I was buying it for a friends 40th (one of twins) and his brother cant make it so I can. Also instead of the £275 / person it was on offer for £99 / person.

I will report back on Friday to let you know how it goes.

Not been to the Chilterns one but to LRE at Dunkeld in Scotland we used a TDV8 RRS and had a grand day out in the hills. The RRS is superb offroad and the D3 is a little better, the better half had never driven off road either and she found it very easy.

I've been on a LRE day at one of the centres, and at Solihull itself. They were both excellent fun and the tuition top notch. You learn how to do everything safely and will be quite amazed at what the vehicles can do. Well worth it!

I did one over near Bristol way just after buying my current RR and it was a fantastic morning out. I took the Old Man and we were both given plenty of time in the cars.

As mine was a freebie aimed at encouraging me to buy the car (which I already had done so) it included a road test as well which was a bit boring obviously as I had just driven to the centre. Apart from that though it was amazing to see what they could do. You honestly look at the muddy gradient and say "you cannot be serious"!

Yup have done 'the experience' there. It's a good site with some fun stuff to do and the instructors are excellent. I did it in a Freeloader2 when they were launched.

Enjoy!

Just a quick report on yesterdays Full Day Level 1 Experience.

Excellent.

Whilst I have always used my LR's to some degree of what they were designed for, it now astounds me that anyone would ever pay for the amount of technology that goes in to the LR and not use it. What it did do for me was convince me not to buy the D4. Why because I wouldn't throw it about like I would a D3. So that's made that decision easier. I loved the new interior of the D4 , but am I going to take it up the lanes, no, I don't think so. Right the hunt is on for the prefect D3.

If you have never used your LR in anger, then I would very very strongly suggest you go on one of the LR experience days. You will be so much more confident in what your vehicle can do, that you will be able to go enjoy it in the environment it was meant for.

Pics to follow

We were in a D3 G4 challenge vehicle BTW.

Cheers

Good summary!

I went in my X3 and realising just how different they were underneath and the amount of time that difference in capability would actually be used was interesting.

It also went some way to explain just why the things are so heavy - a D3 weighs as much as my X3 with an Elise strapped on the top....
