Ok I have a question. 90% unrelated Why do some Americans call it a niche (nitsh) and some call it a niche (neesh). It's all 'american english' but why the difference? don't get me started on 'american' English

That's not irony. Irony would be if there was already one stuck on your door, but the guy still disturbed you to try and sell you another.

Ah but the Septics do say "Erbs" while we say "Herbs" - that annoys me too but in that instance they say it the French way.
