Pedestrian Protection
Clever new system cares for pedestrians when they're being mown down
Discussion
why not go one step further and incorporate a big 100 l airbag into the bonnet? using a pedestrian collision sensor, a trap door on the bonnet could spring open (the bonnet is non structural anyway so this wouldnt hurt the car's torsional rigidity) and a big airbag could sprout out rapidly. Much better than decelerating the person's head against metal despite how it's angled ...
Imagine if you're doing (ahem!) 90 on the motorway, and one of those bits of foam, polystyrene, old tyre, cardboard box etc. that litter the M5, bumps the front of the car.. potentially non-fatal.. a dent in the bumper perhaps...
But No! the bonnet flies upwards removing all driver visibility and changing the areodynamics of the car dramatically so it nose-dives, then spins round out of control and into other vehicles..
hmmm.. maybe its just me or is there a problem here ?
Cheers
Matt.

I have a couple of ideas, why not fine pedestrians say £50 if they are hit by a car, the theory being that if they are in the road and get hit then they were not being observent enough. They obviously dont care about their bodies otherwise they might take better care of them but hit them in the pocket and they might look both ways in future.
At the moment a pedestrian can step out in front of a car (irrespective of speed) and if a car hits them then its the cars fault.
So fine pedestrians

If you want to do something practical to help people who wander into the road try banning the silly bull bars or whatever you call them that people bolt onto their Canyoneros.
There's not a lot of point in trying to reduce pedestrian injuries by making cars more friendly when people stick lumps of RSJ on the front because according to their tiny brains they look "cool"

AS far as I am aware (and it ain't far) they are banned on New cars. But of course being the sensible Govt people we have you can have them fitted aftermarket and it is not a problem. Not at all a case of being seen to do something whilst actually doing F***all

Don't forget that if you clobber a pedestrian you, as driver, pay the cost of the Emergency services call out even if the blame lies with the pedestrian.
You get better value if you hit a whole ambulance load in one go.
No way!! surely you're mistaken? I'm not paying for some drunken tosser to to be 'ported to hospital.
I think we're gonna see "Hit & run" on the increase.
Bull bars are cool. Very cool. I would LOVE bull bars. They inspire fear from other road users, and respect in car parks. A set of tubular "aero" format bars would be great, if carefully designed for the vehicle in the first place. Oooops, did I say something rude? why are you lot recoiling from this post? ah, never mind... Gimme a one, gimme a two, gimme a flame !!
Sorry, I've been on the
