There I was happily driving to work this morning when I had to go through a fairly deep puddle (due to oncoming traffic) - big splash as a result.

No problems except that my Temp/Ice indicator light came on red. OK I thought, just a bit of water on the sensor - it will clear soon. It occasionally flicked to green and orange(!!) at random and when I next indicated to turn right it switched between red and green in tandem with the indicator buzzer.

When I arrived at work the light was green, and when I turned the headlights off it went out (and back on again when I turned the headlights on!)

I guess that the force of water has dislodged the sensor or the wiring somewhere - anyone have any ideas for where to start looking

Cheers
Jon

Usually problem is a badly corroded connector. Item is located in front of the radiator. Easiest way to access is to remove the air box, air filter and the air intake scoop and you can then look right down onto the front of the radiator. Alternatively you can remove the front number plate and scrabble around via the front air intakes. You pay your money and take your choice. The sensor is inside a black plastic connector.

Is the order of lights the right way round in the manual? Mine goes through the sequence (green, amber, red) when you start it, but I've only ever seen red or nothing when on the move.

I've only ever seen green and red on mine until this morning. Green when it's cold and red when it's cold!

Mine did something weird today! it flickered on red when I use the wash wiper button! I thought it might be water getting on the sensor but if its infront of the radiator its unlikely I guess..

any ideas? could be an earthing problem I guess

Actually I think the thing's bloody annoying. Having a red light light up in the middle of the instrument panel while you're driving is quite unnerving.

Tend to agree. It's not like you don't know it's king freezing outside.

I like to decode the light sequences in the following way:

Green: Getting pretty chilly outside, chance of wheelspin and subsequent loss of control. You think your the daddy and a good driver so you carry on carefully.

Orange: Guranteed wheelspin and loss of control, you think your still the daddy and carry on however there is slight soling of the passenger and drivers seats.

Red: Take the bus! your not he daddy.

My '98 Chimaera is the same - goes green amber red when you turn the ignition on, but is only ever off or red when on the move.
I've had the sensor wire changed, so it's nothing to do with that. Suspect its some interim design before they did the full green amber red sequence properly.

Agree - almost sh*t myself the first time it came on.

Mine doesn't work at all, so I just assume that all is fine and floor it as usual
