All,

Can someone help, i have a 2000 passat tdi and when i turn the car to the right whilst driving i can hear a scraping like sound from the passenger side wheel. Now a few points to bear in mind are:

- had it on a ramp and couldn't see the wheel rubbing against anything.
- No noise when stationary and turn the wheel
- when i had the car in the air on the ramp, and turned the steering wheel to the right while the wheels were in motion there was no noise, so the noise is only occurring when driving on the ground.

Now the garage i took it to didn't know what the issue was, the they thought it may be the steering rack but were unsure.

Does this sound like a steering rack issue? bearing the above points in mind?

any help appreciated.. Thanks

Disc rubbing on backplate?
If it's very close, the flexing during turning will allow contact.

Make sure the spring mount hasn’t cracked. Just had to do one on a mates Passat 1.8t.
