US distributors have resolutely passed on a film which will prove hugely divisive in a country where, according to a Gallup poll conducted in February, only 39 per cent of Americans believe in the theory of evolution

an influential site which reviews films from a Christian perspective, described Darwin as the father of eugenics and denounced him as "a racist, a bigot and an 1800s naturalist whose legacy is mass murder". His "half-baked theory" directly influenced Adolf Hitler and led to "atrocities, crimes against humanity, cloning and genetic engineering"

"That's what we're up against. In 2009. It's amazing," he said.
"The film has no distributor in America. It has got a deal everywhere else in the world but in the US, and it's because of what the film is about. People have been saying this is the best film they've seen all year, yet nobody in the US has picked it up."
The fact that Bill Hicks isn't around to rip the piss out of this probably just confirms that there is no god."The film has no distributor in America. You ever noticed how people who believe in Creationism look really uninvolved? You ever noticed that? Eyes reeeeal close together, eyebrow ridges, big furry hands and feet? 'I believe God created me in one day!' Yeah, looks like He rushed it...

Yeah we need people like Bill Hicks, maybe America will just close itself off from the rest of the evolved world and we can all just get on with it.
He did the same few jokes again and again, but was definitely a genius.I don't know whether to laugh or cry about the fact that the majority of Americans seem to believe there was a talking snake and that presumably humans co-existed with dinosaurs
It's times like this I wish Tim Minchin would tour the American deep south.

Extemists of any sort or easy targets fior humour. Dawkins, in his own way, is an extremist too. I have little time for either camp in the extreme corners of this debate - although I like Dawkins when he sticks to his science output.
My feelings on the subject are the same as yours. When you cannot prove you are right, don't talk as if anyone with a different point of view is obviously a moron or evil.Zod said:

Religion worries me greatly, regardless of the form/type.
It never ceases to amaze me at the violence engaged upon by people in order to prove how benevolent their religion is......
Although it should be noted that in most cases in doing so they are going against the basic teachings of their religion. Such acts are often more a reflection of basic human nature (for instance that power corrupts) rather than the religion itself as most religions encourage their followers to suppress such instincts rather than act on them.It never ceases to amaze me at the violence engaged upon by people in order to prove how benevolent their religion is......

In what way is Dawkins an extremist? There are plenty of atheists that don't believe in God, but are content to allow others to take a different view without labeling them as delusional, so there are clearly more moderate atheists than Dawkins.

In what way is Dawkins an extremist? As Eric says, excellent when discussing the science, not so good when being evangelical.

The failing might be mine, but, like Dawkins, I cannot see how religious faith differs from any other delusional belief in imaginary friends...Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
