Just a qwick question. But is there any side effects if you NOS a Ro? Will the engine take it. Iam sure this will cause a lot of heat in the engine.

A wet system at low power (Up to 50bhp) is very very safe.
Re heat, Nos actually acts as a cooling agent so if you have a supercharger you``ll see a considerable benefit as the power lost through heat soak will also be recovered.

Dry systems are the ones that cause all the problems.

When you say wet/dry whats actually the difference? Obviously both use the same gas is it in the delivery of the stuff?

Would you need the car mapping around the stuff for it to work properly?

I think a wet system inputs fuel and NO2, as opposed to just NO2 for a dry system.

yes

Wet injects fuel and Nos in to maintain an AFR. Low power applications and main advantage is charge cooling.

Dry is Nos only and relies on a reprogrammed ece to keep the AFR`s safe (Much more prone to engine damage as high power can be had, This is generally the type that gives Nos its bad rep).

Would still need to upgrade the fuel system then for the wet set up?

Nos.... been there broke that! smile

As Jez says it actually cools the intake charge if used sensible but its addictive and you end up increasing the jet sizes to get more of a hit.

Wet system - you spray in Nos and fuel

Dry - you spray in Nos only

Wet systems are like the old days when you fooled the ecu into cold running whilst upping the boost - ie your throwing in more fuel through a very basic jet and setting the AF ratio up on a dyno. It works but only up to a point.
If you get into it you really need a modified ecu or a stand alone one like motec which knows when nos is going in and ups the injector cycles to compensate and also alters the timing to suit.

As for road use, keep the increase low and you should be fine, increase it and you will lose a piston crown.

Having said all that my now dead mate used a silly amount of Nos on an otherwise stock (but chipped) RS6 and got 750hp out of it! Engine took it but the gearbox broke twice.

Remember Nos allows more burn in the combustion chamber and hence more force on the piston and more power, you only have to look at whats just happened to my pistons to see they are not very good with increased cylinder pressure, forge them and then drop in a 150hp kick.

In fact this is something I might look into! smile

If you ran a very small increase say 25-50 max would it actually help with the running of the engine on a non intercooled S/C if it reduces the intake temps?

No. the Nos kit taps off the fuel line for its fuel supply via a `T`
The kit can be self installed, but it was only £200.00 incl to fit so it was a no brainer really.
Kit cost £680.00 incl a 11 lb Nos bottle fully charged (Nos is approx 7.00 per Lb to refill.)

Yes.
Seems quite tempting especially if helps with the temps, may go this route as opposed to the water/meth injection and just have to be restrained and sensible and not start upping the power levels!

Would I need to get the car mapped to take advantage of an install?

Yes as you need to play about with the jet sizes to get the right AF ration. You can guestimate it though to get a reasonable setup.

Might have a chat with Mark see if he has any opinions on the stuff.

Wouldnt want to run it all the time as would just be filling the bottles up constantly which may cause running problems if the car is mapped for it but dont use it?

You can only use Nos on WOT and you wouldnt want to be using it all the time!

Thanks guys might be worth talking to someone who installs it and see what they think could be interesting & a little different biggrin

The car is used everyday and dont need the extra power for that but do a little 1/4 mile stuff which it would help with that smile

Didnt know that about WOT and NOS, yeah you are right wouldnt want to be using it constantly, need a switch somewhere inside the car to activate it and run it when needed! Just were to put the bottle, boot is miniature as it is and cant think of anywhere else!

I have been given a company that have done some V8 tvr`s and they are more than happy with it so emailed them and see what comes back. but looking to have the car mapped and other bits one but looks like NOS would be fun biggrin

Yeah seems a good idea in theory, think some research is in order!
