hi. last week when i used my car everything seemed ok - although now in hindsight it might of been slightly stiff to get in gear ? now it wont go in any gear apart from almost making reverse when the engine is runing.however with the engine off any gear can be selected as normal.

any ideas please. the fluid is to the top.

thanks in advance for any help / advice. Doug

Try bleeding the fluid - it may have overheated and caused vapour lock. Alternatively it could be a faulty master cylinder. The good thing is that you don't appear to be losing it!.

You've lost a finger or two from the clutch - sorry.

thankyou for your replies.
i have had a chance to have another go today. so if i put the car in gear & then start it it will drive ok , although the gears may be a bit stiff although that could be just because i am thinking about them so much. but if i stop i have had it , it wont go into gear. if i start the car & then try to select a gear it wont go in. if the car is going & in gear as long as i dont stop i can drive it as normal , but if i get the lights i am in trouble.

does this still sound like the clutch / fingers ? i am really hopeing its something else. if it is one or more of the fingers gone how much roughly would it be to sort do you think please. its a 97 4.2. in all honesty its not a job i could do myself , but i do have AA cover that will take me wherever i want to go to get in repaired & i would only want a standard clutch as i dont do track days , just in case this happens ( i wish i had now )

thanks again for your help / advice. regards Doug

I had a few other bits and pieces done; slave, battery etc.

But just the clutch replacement I estimate would be ~ £800 - £1000

Hi Doug, the new uprated clutch is now thought of as a standard part (as the true standard part is, well, err rubbish - as you now know).

Call Andy @ APM you may find he's a little less hard on the wallet than you expect and service is first class.
