the wood is as hard as iron and the top part and pillars come off

We would say it's Dutch but defo continental European, as they go for the ornate thick busy work of the carvings. It's a buffet side board we think.

Obviously old, best put it in specialist fine art auction. That way you will get a good price.

you can't see it in the pics but there is an upside down keyhole in the middle, just under the lip of the bottom half which makes us think it was something else previously

I think it looks great, a bit too ornate for my tastes, but I'd hazard a guess at £4K

I think that usually furiniture with carved dates are indicative of later repro, after all why would someone date a cabinet except to make you think it is older??? I have seen genuinely dated trunks but even some of them are repro.

Try Ebay. Pop it up with a Buy it Now of £4k and see what happens. I suspect it will languish. Then try 2.5K etc Eventually someone will take it.

If you actually wanted to sell it for a good price I would put it in a bonhams auction - you may end up getting more than you expect
