Hello, every one, just joined the site and would like to ask what you all think is the market value for a carb 308 gtb.Ive spoken to different people and have been told an average one should start at about £14,000.I`ve been looking for a while and most of the cars advertised dont seem to sell(therefore too expensive ?).There is a red one advertised with 85,000 miles for about £23,500,any opinions on this appreciated as well...thanks

Are you sure people aren't referring to the 308GT4 when they mention them starting at 14k?

I reckon you need to add 3k-4k to that figure for a GTB that won't bankrupt you. And a bit more for a tidy one. People *know* that these cars are only likely to creep up slightly in value from here on in, especially as less and less decent cars are around.

I am talking about the gtb only(NOT GTBI, GTS, GTB QV) .what do you base your figures on as there has been very few cars selling .

I agree with Murph 7355.Cant say I've seen any 308 GTB's in the 14k region and if I did I'd be very cautious about buying it.14k is decent 308 GT4/Mondial money at the moment.Lowest GTB price I've seen lately is@ 17k

You will get a far less than average 308 gtb for £14k , not trying to diss the people youve spoken to but they are talking bks.

Whilst there are cheap cars around, they tend to get snapped up very very quickly and soon become £17-20k cars, which seems to be the current asking range for average 308's wink

At £14k I'd expect a 308 to be rather tatty around the edges, requiring at least some rust/bodywork, paint and numerous other jobs, or be care worn & high mileage.

ETA

A quick look on ebay and in the autotrader turned up 3 sub £20k GTB's. 2 GTBi's(£14k & 17k) and a carb car (£19k)

£14k Car

£17k Car

£19k Car ommited as I wouldnt want anybody to think that I was recomending the seller in any shape or form on a public forum (especialy as per usual his ad is rather misleading misinformed);)

One of the problems you'll have is that they just didnt make that many 308GTB's for there to be a huge choice at any one time on the market. if your search included GTS's and fuel injected cars you may time things right and find a bargain

My 79 308 GTB is up for sale at £18.5, done circa 70k miles loads of money spent including all rubber pipes for oil, fuel and water replaced, and most with silicon, new header tank, carbs rebuilt and a recent major service (including belts.)Also fitted new stainless steel exhaust manifolds and sports exhaust and 4 new tryres. Needs a bit of cosmetic body work round the edges but presents realy nice with its recent retrimed interior.

The problem with £14k cars is that by the time they are put right you have a £20k car thats only worth £18.5k. I`m moving out of older sports cars into some thing new, a once in a life time purchase that hopefully will stay with me till I hang up the driving gloves. 2009/2010 is a very exciting time to be buying a super car with so many new models on the way, kids in a sweet shops.......

The 14k car looks more like a kit car replica ?? some thing just not right with it, including mirrors, side sills, air inlets lip around the rear deck ect ect and LHD.

The next one looks good for the money but is the less loved injection vershion with wet sump and 35 ? less hp.

good find,I never look on auto trader.

I had thought of starting a similar thread myself, so i'm interest to hear peoples views.

I'm sure there are a few horrors out there sub £20k but am i right thinking there are a few genuine cars out there as well? Providing you are lucky timewise and get it checked out?

I have also been looking at the classifieds and noticed this
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1000724.htm

Whats the opinions on this against a £20k 308? I'm not a fan of the earlier mondials but this looks like a real nice car. I presume having the same engine as the 348 it will have decent performance and maybe a more modern feel than an early 80s 308?

The Mondial T is a far better proposition if you plan on driving it every day (yes I know you can drive a 308 every day as well!) with all the mod cons "normal" cars have as well as almost all the performance of the 348's, it also has better rust prevention smile

Thanks Andrew, it wouldn't be a daily car, but i'm thinking more car for similar money?

How do they compare to a 308 for servicing & repairs? I'm presuming a bit dearer?

Mechanicaly it will cost a tad more (essentialy the same costs as a 348) but thats offset by the better rust prevention.
