Just wondering, what sort of MPG could I expect from and S4, say standard or 400BHP? Just I have a BMW 330d sport at present and want something a bit more 'exciting' as my everyday car. Trouble is I do on average 20000 mpa!

What model? B5, B6 or B7?

Have a look in TonyHetheringtons thread in this forum or look at the "Real Wrold MPG Wiki" in General Gassing.

I had a B7 S4 Cab - averaged 18mpg mix of town/country and dual carriage way. A long motorway run would return 23/24mpg..

The sound is fantastic and 100% worth it! I miss my S4 so bad frown

The answer to your next question lies here:

Work on the assumption it will return 'up to' 20 miles per gallon for a V8 manual and you shouldn't be too far wrong.

I sold the S4 Cab about 2 months ago - bought an AMV8 2 weeks ago and sold it today!! It looked beautiful, sounded amazing but the gearbox and clutch where a knightmare (very very heavy) and coupled with the handbrake being on the right hand side of you (IMO) made for an unpleasant drive.

I did well (actually got £1600 more than I paid!).

I will probably get another V8V but Auto - but the short answer is yes - I really miss the S4. Audi's plastics are great, the interior and gadgets are all great. The drive was easy, quattro gave a great sense of safety etc. I know it cant match for looks but I would gladly be back in my S4 right now!

Don't get me wrong, I like the S4 (I have one), but they don't sound half as nice as an AMV8. Every time I put the windows down and floor it in second through a tunnel all I can hear is wind noise.

Hey Lee

We have kindered dilemnas. I too have a 330d - and loved the mpg (39) from a pretty sport engine, but you just get the feeling that a real 6 cylinder engine should be petrol. Especially if you can get one without a turbo whistle. Do recall the sound of previous 330is?So the S4 sounded just the ticket.

I too do 20k per year so needed to feel I was not going too far north on petrol bills

I test drove one of the new ones in Estate guise for 3 days and got 25.2Mpg on mixed roads. I figured that was not bad for a some pretty ascertive right foot usage in a new car in its heaviest format.

It convinced me to order one anyhow (in a saloon) and with the more efficient s-tronic gear box. Good luck with your decision. It is a nice problem to have in a funny way...
