Boot not opening
Discussion
One eveing during the week I changed the thermostat which I had kept in the boot. When I opened the boot to get it, I could hear the door / window control box ticking away - quite a fast light tick not the slow rythmic clunky click you get from the solenoid. Noticed that the ticking stopped when I locked the car with the key fob so didn't worry too much about it.
Went out today to test if the thermostat change had worked to cure the overheating(it seems to have by the way!), stopped for fuel, couldn't get the boot open luckily had enough fuel to get home.
Opened the boot manually, noticed the box still ticking. Disconnected the wiring to the switch, ticking stopped. Aha says I, the switch is sticking. Took the switch to bits, cleaned it up, it's working perfectly, put it all back together no ticking.
Now, when I press the button, I get the ticking from the control box, but the boot still doesn't open. If I bridge the two wires to the switch I get the same ticking so I'm pretty sure it's not the switch itself. I suspect it might be the solenoid but I can't see how to get into that - do I just need to unglue more carpet?
What do you think guys? Is it more likely to be the solenoid or the control box? Is it likely that I've burnt out the control box if the switch was sticking on (even although the boot solenoid itself wasn't being activated)?
