If you overfill the expansion tank, can coolant come out when hot and under high pressure and if so where from?
I noticed a small leak from one of the unions on the little metal pipe that runs along the front of the car, near the driver's side air scoop at the bottom. I tried tightening up, then filled the expansion tank about 3/4 full. Got to work this morning and there is a fizzing noise and water pissing out the same area underneath. NOT from the big hoses and not from the area I tightened up. Is this the excess coolant comeing out from somewhere??

So is the fizzing coming from the cap or somewhere else? If you overfill the coolant then it will spit the excess out. Every car is different, but most seem to settle around 1/2 up the coolant 'tower' at or just above the side outlet pipe (this is assuming you do not have the later expansion tank mod with an overflow tank on the offside inner wing).
If it is overfilled, it will come out the expansion tank cap which is designed to allow this. When the coolant has been topped up, the car will 'find its level' and then should be fine. It will be hot, so it will fizz making it look like it is overheating but usually it won't be. Give it a few days and see, just make sure the level doesn't get too low.
Hi, thanks for responding. I have the expansion tank mod, but the water isn't oming from there. It's 'fizzing' from the left hand side of the rad (as viewed from the front of the car) nearby the thin metal pipes that run along side the rad. I guess in this case, there shouldn't be any leak from anything but the cap when overfilled. Arse.
What does that thin pipe do anyway?

Don't know about the pipe, but from what you say you have a leak. At least it didn't 'blow' while on a run out somewhere.What does that thin pipe do anyway?

water temp up about 5 degs. Not normal. Think it's leaking from the plastic cap. Oh well, she's been well behaved u to now! Time to get it sorted I guess.Are your water/oil temps ok?
