Service Help on BMW
Discussion
Hi, I am about to purchase a Silver BMW 320D Reg: DY54FZU and I had a look at the service booklet and it was serviced at (all by BMW) 24k, 70k & 91k, it is at 119k at the moment and the owner said it was serviced at 110k but there is no stamp! the on board computer says that inspection is due in 14000 miles, is there anyway in finding out if it was really serviced after 91k or if it was serviced by the previous owner between 24 & 70k? any help would be appriciated. Thanks
If you call BMW customer services and quote them the car reg and possibly the VIN if you have it. They should then be able to tell you its service history and if any outstanding recalls are present for it.

If you would like the dealer details for any of the above visits let me know.
PartsGuru, I'm curious if my car had any service department visits outside routine servicing before I got it. Would you be able to look up the same info for mine? Its reg is YR06WBL if you can.24931

Nothing prior to Sept 08 on the system but in connection to your other posting on servicing and the running problem it had an air mass meter changed under warranty in July this year. When did you buy it??

I bought it in Dec 07 so the Sept 08 service will be the first one it had under my ownership (bought at just under 15k and serviced first time at 34k-ish).
At the 34k service (Inspection 1) they were asked to investigate the poor fuel ecconomy and came up with nothing. They also had to fix the rearmost exhaust hanger which had come loose.
At roughly 36k it was in again as their repair had failed with the bracket clinking along the road. Again, I asked them to investigate the fuel consumption. This time they concluded the actuator was sticky and it could use a new air filter (clearly it had got very dirty in the 2k miles since I last asked them the exact same question at the Inspection 1). So replaced the filter and had the actuator lubed. Bugger all difference.
In both instances I mentioned the car was notably poorer running and lacking in power on wet/damp days and specifically asked them to check the airflow and turbo pressure sensors because of this.
This continued with me trying different driving styles and different brands of diesel etc and nothing would get my fuel ecconomy above low 40s. Now, my commute literally consists of 50yds urban driving, through one set of traffic lights and then 29 miles at steady 70-75mph on the motorway. (With the same motorway element and an extra 9 miles of stop start town driving my Golf would give 55mpg, and on occasion I used to nab my dads 184hp 5sp E39 530d and get 43-44 out of it, again including stop start traffic!)
In July it cut all power in the middle of me overtaking a car on a country road. Wouldnt boost and wouldnt rev above ~2250rpm. I was on my way to my parents so decided to limp it the rest of the 10 miles seeing as there was no warning lights so was just hoping for a boost hose or similar, and the fault cleared itself about 2 miles from their house.
Phonecall to BMW Assist revealed I was clearly hallucinating when a chap in BMW Assist 5 series came out and diagnosed my mother's Z4 by the roadside as they cant do that. Also they wouldnt come out anyway because the fault had cleared itself, sudden powerloss isnt a big thing I suppose.
The MAF ended up getting changed after I went nuts at the servicing manager after the car repeated the limp home routine on a nice long hill on the M77 leaving me having to drop back in the overtaking lane and slot in behind the truck I was along side because I couldnt make the pass.
The new MAF has improved things by around 1 mpg at best, it combined with the greased actuator has made it pull a bit more like it should, but still not as hard as I'd expect (comparison with my mother's old E46 320d saloon which pulled a lot harder and had to be driven like I stole it to get fuel ecconomy below 40).
Apologies if that comes across as a bit of a rant, none of my bitterness is directed at you. I'm actually really appreciative of your help on this, makes me wonder exactly what servicing it received as a BMW AUC before I bought it to justify the service indicator being reset.
There's been a fair bit more has irked me with ownership, coming from my dealings with the servicing department. Bottom line appears to be I have a Friday afternoon car and unless I can get the computer to tell them how to fix it, I'm stuck with it.

PG seems to be a top bloke!
Indeed, he should transfer to one of the Strathclyde region dealerships for a month or two

The only other thing that springs to my mind is the pump control unit, but that would normally leave a fault in the memory. i will ask in our workshop. It's a shame the car is so far away, otherwise you could bring it in so I could get it checked over. Sometimes these cars are too clever for their own good and they confuse themselves and any diagnostic kit!!!

Bmw Extended Service Terms I assume it's the extended warranty?
23842 was gearshift gaitor changed due to cracking, I can't see what was done at 40213 because the stock answer on nearly every dealers input on the screen appears to be used car warranty!! It must be the first option on the system and they don't tab down to select anything else!! A quick call into the dealer should result in a verbal confirmation or if you get lucky they may be able to email a screen dump of the invoice, minus any owner details of course!!

Checking with the dealer there was some minor work covered by warranty though they wouldnt go into details (sounds like something to do with a warning light)23842 was gearshift gaitor changed due to cracking, I can't see what was done at 40213 because the stock answer on nearly every dealers input on the screen appears to be used car warranty!! Last question
Coolant, when did they go from 4yr changes (around 2003 I believe) to 'lifetime' and what if any is the difference in coolant?
Many thanks once again
