Baby monitor problems

No sure this the right place to ask but here goes, We seem to be getting through baby monitors at an alarming rate, 5 to be precise in as many weeks, the remote parent units all seem to pack up with a matter of days, with no obvious reason. Have tried 4 different brands ranging in price from mid to high, here are my thoughts for what they are worth, could it be an old microwave oven, which is in the next room, or is there something in the home electrical system causing a disturbance.
This is causing my wife and I a real head ache, any thoughts?

Are you using rechargeable batteries? For some reason, our tommy tippee one states in big bold letters that you are to use normal batteries only.

No idea why though....

We live in a 1930s semi. Back in those days they built houses properly. If our 1 year old is crying in the room above the lounge we can't hear her if tv is on a lowish volume.

Setup a webcam and mic in the kids room on a pc then have a laptop in the living room monitoring it, networked with a cable, as an alternative solution.

thanks guys, no the parent units just seem to die, change batteries, and still nothing to sound, I wonder if there is something in the house that is blowing the units, I'm not an electricain but some sore of power surge that is messing with them

I have the same problem...my ones seem to choose when they want to work at random. bloody things.

No idea on why they're blowing but have you tried the BT ones? We've been using the BT150 for about 9 months with no issues at all and a good range on the parent unit.

We have a six month old and have the same problem. Occasionally we can hear some of the high pitched screaming over the sound of the TV. I find turning the surround sound on with the sub-woofer set to 8 prevents any further disturbance of my evening viewing. More often than not she gives up and goes back to sleep.

+1 for around £60 it's superb... very happy with ours.

We had the BT one when our daughter was a baby, never had any problems with it at all and lasted really well. Other people on our street complained with other brands they often got interference and could hear other peoples babies!

I had the tommee tippee suresound ones and I think we needed to change the crystals or something as they just sounded like interference
