The other half's 2006 Polo GTI (standard) seems to suffer from a slight hesitation on full throttle around 3-3.5k rpm. Is this normal for this engine, or does it suggest a problem? Would a re-map sort this out? It's not a major issue, it just feels a bit odd, as if there is a flat spot.

Thanks,

Paul.

Mass airflow meter or a coil pack I reckon.

Unplug the MAF (located on the intake, just after the airbox) and take it for a spin and see if it still does it. You'll get a warning light on the dash but it'll go off when you plug it back on.

Unlikely to be a coilpack - this will misfire at idle and usually springs orange EML light.

Diverter valve or airflow meter when wearing out can both hamper smooth power delivery/boost.

Thanks for the replies,I'll try disconnecting the maf. What is the normal life of a maf or diverter valve, as it's only done 21k?

Unusual for a diverter to go that soon on a standard car but the airflow meters have a mind of their own!

MAF or DV. More likely to be the MAF though. Which is nice as it is more expensive. I have a new APR R1 DV waiting to be installed which I hope will cure mine.
