Stereo - again!

Still looking to upgrade the awful factory fit speakers. Have narrowed it all down to JL audio as MB Quart has now been sold to the Yanks and is cheap and horrible so that's out.

Anyone fitted an amplifier to their system? If so details?

I know all the " I listen to the engine" comments, but sometimes when I have to use it to commute or sit in traffic its just nice to hear things properly.

MB quart (as was) now trade as German Maestro, so you can get these if you want. Its onlt the name the yanks own. No real need for an amp IMO as speakers like the MB quarts are easy to drive. Give Karl Baker a call at car&bike I am sure he will be happy to chat about the different options for an install. He did the work on my Tam and its excellent, not cheap but well worth the money

MB Quart was sold to the Yanks. The original MB Quart company then set up as German Maestro but I dont believe there are any UK dealers.

I know Carl knows his stuff, but he also does not reply to e-mails!! I would have my work done by him, but I will not give money to someone who does not answer correspondence.

Well, it depends what rating your JLs are. If you have a high powered head unit you may not need to bother with an amp. It all depends how sensitive your speakers are. Also, take any H U's quoted power output figures with a pinch of salt. Usually the quoted wrms figure is much closer to peak output & really no HU will give you anything like the figures they claim, certainly not in terms of clean, continuous power like a dedicated amp will.

I run a USAmps AX-TU600C Tube amp which puts out 2 x 165wrms into Dynaudio 240GT mids & Oz Matrix Elite Tweeters. I have in the past also run Genesis, Sinfoni, USAmps MD & Merlin & Alpine amplification. It also depends how much you want to spend...

If you decide to run any serious power you would be wise to look at upgrading the 'Big 3'. ie. The three cables
1) Alternator positive to battery positive
2) Battery negative to chassis &
3) Engine earth to chassis.

This lowers the overall resistance of your electrical system, which in turn reduces dimming & voltage drops & puts a lot less strain on the vehicles charging system. It took me 3 new alternators to learn my lesson...

I have a Genesis Profile 4 amp running a pair of MBQ Reference components and a pair of 8ohm Genesis 6x9 subs (wired in parallel in bridged mono). It's got more than enough power for a TVR setup, and the amp itself is tiny.

i used to think i wanted an upgraded stereo/hifi in the T350, but after almost a year of ownership, i have put the pioneer on about once, for about a minute. and the car was off.

you can pay as much as you want to get the best quality audio in there etc etc but at the end of the day, there is so much bass coming from the car, it muffles any bass produced by music therefore making any music pretty pointless (unless you are listening to music with no bass!)

I have driven for hours in the T350 and the sound of the S6 & exhaust keeps me happy till i turn the ignition off.
