E32 Key help please
Discussion
I'm looking for a little assistance if possible...
The E32 i bought from GP is wonderful but i'd like to get a couple of new keys for her.
Couple of questions?
The car has the early flick style keys, would the two button key from the later E32's work with it?
If i bought non remote keys, when the door would be unlocked with the key, would this disable the alarm?
BMW are trying to ream me for £200 each for the same style keys that i've got for her.
Many Thanks

It's the earlier style where the key flicks out.
All i really want to know is if the alarm goes off when you unlock with the key.
The chaps at my local BMW establishment looked at me funny when i said 'E32'
If you lock the car with the remote key, thus turning on the alarm, you need to unlock it the same way to disable it.
However, if you manually unlock the car (key in the lock) after setting the alarm with the remote key, the alarm WILL go off. But only until you turn the ignition on-this will turn the alarm siren off (assuming the siren still works!).
You will only be able to replace the ignition key with the original type-the later 2 button key is EWS which your car does not have.

How easy is it to have a second-hand key recoded to my car?
The keys are just shortened standard keys, you can get them cut at any key cutters.
To fit the switchblade remote you have to cut the head off and drill a hole to fit the locking screw.
I know, I've done it.
If you can acquire another remote, not many about now, the mating procedure for the car is very simple and is even in the handbook.
