Iwould like to have a go at changing the dash bulbs, and also the outside temp quage display on the central unit of my 1998 xjr v8. Does anyone know how easy it might be, and if they can guide me through it. Also do you know if you can get different coloured bulbs for them. Cheers

They don't come in different colours from jag. From memory they are normal clear bulbs with a little blue johnny over the end the make them blue/green ish.

To replace the dash ones you just pull the wood off and unscrew the dash screws, pull the dash forward and flip it over to get to the bulbs.

(this is not the same for XK where there are hidden screws, the wood doesnt just pull of on XK)

You have to take the J gate surround off and removed the "ski slope" trim to get to the A/C panel ones, thats a bit mote tricky, easy to brake the clips etc.

The bit of wood that goes from around the J gate up to around the stereo and A/C controls. Here's a guide for the X300, it quite a bit different to your X308 so dont try to follow it exactly, just shows what part I mean and roughly whats involved.

You need to be very gentle with the "wood" especially the ski slope. The best way I've found to remove the dash trim is to work the middle of a length of string behind the top and bottom of each piece and gently pull the ends of the string to ease the trim out of the sprung clips to remove it.

I was advised to fit Ford Mondeo bulbs to the dash when I changed mine - aparrently they have a longer life as well as being slightly brighter. Part no F1028433. IIRC you'll need 4.

Thanks for you reply. I have undone the screws on the plastic cover on the dash, but I am having trouble pulling the cover forward, seems to be sticking on the bottom, are there any other screws that I am missing?
