Jeez' at least I now know I'm not alone. So many people in the same situation as me.

Nice to know it's not just me with the problem but not filling me with confidence for the job market.

Marketing bloke isn't helping himself by turning up to £100k+ interviews looking like he's slept on a pile of rubble by a canal.

I pity those graduates - very sad, especially the Domino's guy.

If anyone is in this awful position on here, with decent web or analytical skills, do drop me an email. smile

Me? laugh

But seriously its not good out there.

27 job applications, 5 rejections, 1 interview (tomorrow, as it happens with the DWP) In the meantime i've moved to Worcester, the jobcentre has buggered up my claim, so i'm now meant to live on £1 a week and i'm on the verge of being broke.

PC World havent even got back to me.

So that's what a 2.1 Politics degree gets you everybody. On the plus side i'm going to college to do a compTIA technician course which i'm quite excited about

Have to say I found it quite depressing.

I'm being made redundant at the moment and it doesnt fill me with hope that I'll find a new job quickly.

I have RIBA parts 1 and 2 (BA (hons) Arch & BArch) and have not been able to find work within the construction industry I am currently working 24 hours a week for a high street retailer for minimum wage. Its a little depressing to be honest, I keep telling myself that at least I have a job but really after 7 years at university I expected to be doing what I had trained for not this, its rubbish frown

I agree. It was the most depressing bit of TV I have seen in ages.

Agreed. Made me realise how important a first impression is. I just saw a fat unshaven slob with horrendous teeth.

The other guys weren't much better, wearing an ear-ring, brown shoes and woeful shirts.

The problem here is many people like myself can't even get an interview to even make a first impression.

I've made 24 applications in the last 2 weeks and been on the blower everyday trying to follow-up these applications.

The only feedback I have had in the last month is two rejections, one call back and twice I have managed to get through to a recruiter.

Promising discussion about a design job at a small miltary supplier today though.

I was made redundant only 5 weeks ago and I have applied for absolutely everything in my work sphere with no luck, soon I will have to think about just taking anything available but I'm not looking forward to the prospect. Its extremely demoralising and I've started getting panic attacks frown

What job did you expect to get with a degree in politics?

Prime Minister? roflroflroflrofl

Seriously though, I had to change jobs last year (due to a spine injury) and it took me months and months of applications to get anywhere. All I can say from my personal experience is that you really have to keep trying and in the interim period you have to apply for everything. I did and eventually got a good job but it took months of searching and applying.

Chin up all, keep trying and you will get there!

You're an engineer aren't you? tongue out

I'm after something research based or some sort of civil service position. I'm also trying to get into IT to, which is why i'm doing a part time course.....

On the plus side I had an interview with the DWP today, so its not all gloom.

I started watching this about 15 minutes in. To be honest I was surprised most of them going, on their attitudes and general demeanour, had reasonably high paid jobs in the first place to lose.

There did seem to be a fair bit of "the world owes me a living cos i was a 65k a year exec or a masters graduate" going on in that programme.

But well worth a watch from the c4 website if you didn't see it.

I watched this on Sky+ last night and the only guy I thought displayed that attitude was the marketing guy from Hamleys.

I had sympathy for the HR woman, the guy who went for the pizza place interview and the graduate working for the dogs trust.

It was a depressing program though. I've been out of work for nearly a year (a year tomorrow actually) and it's not pleasant.

I thought that too, quite ridiculous.
