cats were not required until end of august 92 so your car should be fine.

CAT is largely irrelevant - it has to pass the emmissions levels if registered after 1st Aug 1992

the levels effectively mean a CAT is usually necessary. Si I think you should be ok

EDIT - after a bit of digging I think I might be wrong if VOSA say your car has a CAT then I think its tested using CAT limits

From 1992 onwards, the limits were much stricter, and without a cat you are going to have massive problems at MOT time.
Before 1992 (which you are) the limits are much more relaxed. If the engine is in good health you should be fine. If its not in good health, the chances are that it would have buggered the cat anyway. I am sure you know yourself whether or not it runs well.

Well it passed and at the first time of asking smile

3 little advisory notes though:

Offside rear shock has a light misting of oil???

Offside rear brake disc slightly pitted???

Front brake stone guards corroded???

Any advise on the above?

Cannot belive my 19 year old car only cost me £40 for another years ticket!

Well Done.
Exactly the same as my 11 year old scooby.
I will be changing the rear shocks and discs (and pads) when I next service it.
Not sure whether or not to slap some paint on the stone guards or simply not bother.
On the range rover I just ripped them off (literally) and have had no problems since. I did clean up the edges so they did not look quite so obviously removed in this fashion.
