Cheapest way of moving a few boxes of belongings 150 miles?

Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum for posting in, but it seems most apt.
My girlfriend is moving from Dorset to London and she has a few suitcases worth of belongings, just slightly too many to fit in a car. I was wondering what the cheapest way of moving the stuff is? As usual she left things to the last minute, she has got a quote of £200 from this place here http://www.manandvanweymouth.com/ for delivery on Saturday, just wondering if this is a competitive price for moving around 70kg 135(ish) miles? Or would it be possible/cheaper to post the belongings? Cheers.

Sounds about right to me mate. I took someone + belongings from Manchester to Truro & charged £450.

I've used http://www.shiply.com/ before with great success - you put the details of what you want moved and where/when and couriers/van drivers who are available give you quotes! Was much cheaper for me than using normal couriers, as there is a bit of competition/bidding going on.

Couldn't you get them in the car if you really pushed hard? Roof rack?

Anyway, I bet half of it is clothes she never wears, or things that are replaceable for less than 200.

Rent a self-drive van for the day, drop the stuff off, drive it back and then take the train back to London.
£40 rental + £40 fuel + train ticket.

Might be a bit more long winded, but definitely cheaper.

I was thinking along the same line.

And if you go for one of the bigger renting companies you often have the choice of a different dropoff point as well, so you don't have to drop the van off in London again.

If they can be securely fastened, with perhaps heavy duty tape, why not send them via DHL or UPS?

Palletline or similar, couple fo quid for the pallet, a few more for a mahoosive cardboard pallet box, cling film it up and job done next day for around £45

£500 deposit to rent a van btw.

Refundable if you obviously don't prang it, but if you make the slightest scratch...

If none of your mates have a bigger car you can borrow, the cheapest way I is to take two cars cost of petrol and maybe a few beers to your mate if the misses cant drive.

Problem solved for much less than £200
