Just watched that show about him last night too.
Maybe Ch4 knew something all along...

Genuine sadness at this news. Admired his skill, sincerity and love of food (and the unintentional comedy nature of his shows!)

I shall raise an appropriately large glass this evening.

Watching the show on Ch4 last night, the writing was on the wall. Ex wife about to take everything he had left, and in poor health, it looked like to me he didn't have much fight left in him. Very sad news.

I thought that Keith Allens program was very unsympathetic to poor old Keith Floyd. It showed him in a rather pathetic light and gave a general sense of decline throught the whole program. Think what they could have done rather than focus on cheap shots of Keith asleep or losing his balance after one too many pastis. Not Keith Allens finest hour i thought.

Gutted. A real icon and formative figure from my youth.

I have a bottle of Haut-Brion from the year of my birth year in the bottom row of my wine rack - tonight might have to be the night.

Here's to you Keith - A Good Innings.

A life lived - every drop of juice squeezed out of it. By all accounts a bit of a rogue, and a difficult man. But a character.

Rest In Peace, dear fellow.

Indellibly etched on my memory is the moment in South East Asia that having cooked a rather unsuccessful concotion of spider crabs (in their shells) in a curry sauce he turned to the camera and said "I am sorry - that's crap. It looks like the creature from alien boiled in mud!" Raised a glass to the camera and fade to black.

A ledgend!

RIP Mr Floyd

Very difficult to work with apparently but was such a character and very interesting and fun to watch. Rick Stein has taken over his mantle now I guess, also someone with a good personality.

I think he once described a goose as "too big for one, but not enough for two" biggrin

I'll have a large one as well tonight.

Regards
Andy

Keith, you were the first 'TV' chef I watched as a lad. Even though I was only 6 I laughed at your insistance to add more chillis to the dish against the advice of the Indian chef you were cooking for.

'How is it?' you asked. 'Too much chilli' replied the Indian chef, with his mouth on fire!

I have always watched your shows and followed the news of your latest adventure / venture with great interest. An example to us all of how to live the way you want to!

R.I.P. Keith Floyd!

(we won't mention the driving ban) wink
