Anyone work for Virgin?

I want Virgin cable and I friend of mine used to work for Virgin said you can get "mates rates" on some of their services.

How does this work then? Is there like a refferral code I can give when ordering?

I want the "L" telly service and "omg so quick i just shat the bed" internets. Don't care about phone.

Anyone willing to put me on their mates rates? I'll send you some nudie pictures of my mrs.

They will basically make you take a phone line at £11/month - otherwise the price of the TV & BB gets silly. I have a lump sum discount of 23 odd quid + reduced rates on BB & in order to get it I have to have a phone line & a free E&W call package . Phone line doesn;t have a phone connected to it & I still pay for/use my BT line because Virgin's other call prices (0845/0870/Mobile/INternational are heinous)

I pay about 40 quid/month for TV XL, 10Mb BB (L?), a V+ box & a second TV box which isn't too bad for what I get I think (in there is also the phone line & call package).

You have to be in a cabled area of the country though. If you live out in the sticks then chances are you're not going to get the mega fast broadband as it will in effect still come down your phone line.

Half the reason i chose the new place is because of the cable

that and the garage.

I can't remember what the house looks like (that's what the bird's for) but i've got a clear map of where my new tool cab is going in the garage with my new work bench (and vice). Trouble is i'm running out of room quickly so might need a double soon.....


Anyway, aclivity has "hooked me up" (to coin a phrase from TV's pimp my ride) so looks like i'm all sorted.

How fast is the FAST virgin BB then, and can you actually download at those speeds all the time?

My Sky BB is 16meg; it will connect and download at 12meg all day long.....and they don't have a fair use policy

The 'rents have 'up to 20 meg' and a certain file sharing protocol reported over 2 megabytes a second dl the other week.

After a certain point you end up bottle necked by the server at the other end anyhow

2MB/s = 16 mb/s so that's a 80% ratio (and that's on ADSL).

Virgin offer a 50Mb/s service, so if you take into account the 80% reduction ratio, that's 40Mb/s or 5MB/s. I'd be happy with that.

Cable doesn't have the contention issue that DSL does so you should get 100% of the line speed if it's not metered at their end.

Yup, speedtest was reporting around 16mb/s so you are dead on.

When it comes to the aforementioned protocol if the other peers have capped themselves low you'll never max it out... This appeared to be some nutter in Bulgaria uping quicker than I dl, most of the time!
