It's a sick joke, I guess I'm going to offend him but to be honest, he's delusional if he thinks he can give any real driving training, it's a lame gimmick to get rich daddy's boy 17 year olds in a car they shouldn't even be thinking about and don't even get me started on the stickers! furious

Yeah I spotted these on strathycruise last week, madness - love the fact that they will teach anyone from 12 or above now, must be plenty of kids stealing dads keys back in the homeland now...

good luck to them both, over on the vxr forum. It may be a gimmick but if they want to offer the chance then fair bloody play to them.

hey guys go easy on the comments re business side of what he and his Mrs do, as Stig says fair play to them for trying something different. On their website the prices I saw didnt look too extreme so its not necessarily only for little rich kids. Lets keep the remarks/comments about the car only please.

Looking on the site it seems the VXR8 is only for the advanced driving not for normal driving lessons for 17+?

Well if its only advanced driving then I suppose can see some use in it, still a bit risky tho especially in the wet as the first thing any of us would want to do is floor it lol

Nice one, would take a lot to offend me and anyone is free to make whatever comments they wish as no doubt most people will have their own opinions on what we do or don't do. Life is full of people who immediately think or say negative things rather than think the positives through and deal with any issues as and when they raise their head - believe me as i have had to deal with more than most and my glass is still half full !

Mmmmmmm 'dilusional if he thinks he can give any real driver training' (based on what that you think you know about what we do?) . . . . . or just thinking outside the box and making quality lessons whether it be under-age, normal L training, driving instructor training or dare I say it Advanced Driver Training available to people at a realistic and reasonable price !

Sorry cont'd-
Not a lame gimmick but actually offering a service much cheaper than many other places - Advanced Driving in your own car, one of our normal average driving school cars, or how about one of our Golf GT TDis, or one of the Skoda VRs' or the Civic 2.2, or what about one of the VXR8s - with the choice of offering just training to improve your driving and keep you safer on the road or the choice of sitting either the DIAmond Advanced Test if you want it based on the DSA marking system or the IAM normal Advanced Test, the IAM Special Assessment Test or how about the RoSPA test aiming for Gold or even the RoSPA Diploma - the choice is more than many would step forward to consider doing.

Re 17yr olds who shouldn't be in a fast car - This actually happened, young lad 17yrs passes test (not with us) and dad buys him an EVO without really thinking it through. Few weeks later lad crashes into back of other car in line of traffic not that high a speed but didn't deal with car properly and getting done for Dangerous driving - ok he didn't think about other training after he passed his test and although it wouldn't bother me doing his Pass Plus or Advanced sessions in his own car it's not a bad thing being able to offer it in our own cars

Sorry cont'd . . . . . again and having a bit of a chuckle as I type as we have been offering lessons since 2002 now and started the under-age driving at the same time albeit initially from age 15yrs and due to demand, lowered the age to 12yrs - heard it all before re kids stealing keys and cars and it still sounds as daft now as it did then - not had any stealing cars we know of after driving with us but had some brought to us to keep it legal to stop or reduce the chances of them doing it. No reason why they shouldn't be allowed to do it and they are taught properly from the word go. Some drive only a few times before going on road at 17yrs and some do it as a regular hobby or pass time - (even did it myself as a kid on my uncles farm and loved it)

Oh . . . and the stickers, well that just goes with the territory and is our main advertising tool for the business - don't use standard old fashioned roof boards - all the school cars have graphics/stickers on and heh guess what ? It works.

The VXR8s are for Advanced Lessons whether that be; lets look at your driving and give you some hints, tips and coaching or whether you want full course with test at end or not, it is totally flexible. We are negotiating final tweaks to instructor insurance for the cars and have merely started a waiting list of those interested in going out. The red auto is getting run in and the white manual we get in October. The auto is actually a very versatile toy.

At the moment we have decided on £60/hr with min 2hrs, then 1/2 day (4hrs) and full day (8hrs) both including comfort breaks. (looking online, this is not only cheaper than anyone else but quite probably a fraction of the price.)There will also be the option of an add on to take the car offroad on a track area to push it a little more but will likely be limited to an hour or so to minimise extreme wear to the car as this is primarily for on-road training. If someone wants to hammer round a track then we all know where that can be done and the race instructors are the boys/girls for that.

Anyone who knows these cars will realise we are actually going to be making a loss on the running of the cars once everything is taken into account but we want to make it more accessible to many for the experience rather than just a select few. From a business point of view this is an extra tag onto the business amd will have a dual role and some of the expense can be offset against marketing.

well said onboard, what you have said makes a lot of sense.

i have just got myself a vxr8 , my first rwd car.

i think it would be a good idea for me to get atleast 1/2 to a full days on road training with yourselfs
for you to access my driving and give me some tips for driving a high powered heavy rwd car.( for my safety and other road users)

i have my name down aswell for the run on the 11th october from stirling, maybe we can have a chat about it and arrange a date.

The problem is that the law allows a 17 year old with no driving experience pass their test and buy a ferrari.
This I think is fundamentally wrong - even if you are somebody like lewis hamilton with race experience since childhood and perfect car control you simply so not have knowledge of how roads with traffic work.

They do the same with bikes so I don't think it's unreasonable to limit cars based on age/driver experience.

But with things as they are now then I would much rather a 17 year old learn some basics on a private track than on public roads...

I'd recommend driver training to anybody - theres always something new to learn. I've been on a few now even though I've raced before with a nice little trophy cabinet from my youth.
