Twin weber throttle linkage
Discussion
Hi guys
I have recently had my car tuned in on a rolling road. The guy discovered that the thottle linkage didn't fully open the throttle.
He adjusted this and the car ran good for a week or two. Then it started to have trouble going back to idle. Often it will just drop back to 1500-1700 rpm. It seems like that if i press the linkage back towards closed, i can get it to fully close. I then started to look into my throttle linkage, and discovered that it was a Magard type linkage, like this:

I then read here ( http://www.northamptonmotorsport.com/default.asp?i... ) that these linkages were hard to adjust. It says:
"Often the linkage will either give full throttle but will not shut to a consistent idle position, or it will shut off to idle but not give full throttle. This is a particular problem with the old Magard style linkage"
Northampton motorsport says that the solution would be to switch to a original weber linkage. So my question is, have any of you guys had this problem, or have used the weber linkage?
Do you think this could be problem? It is very often that it won't drop to idle, but it isn't every time.
Hope you can help
Thank you
Dennis

Hi Dennis, i've only ever run a Weber linkage which I got the Flebay for about £70, it did however come with everything I needed (Except the actual cable kit) which I got from Peugeot for £30 to fit my 205 Gti on 40's.
The Weber kit is good as gold, the only issue i've had has been the cable snapping because it's french. You might also benefit from checking the internal throttle springs as these can cause you issues when trying to open the throttles if they are knackered but whoever tuned your car would have picked that up at the time I would have thought.
Get a Weber Throttle linkage, get a Weber Twin Throttle cable kit and a couple of gen service kits, you pretty much can't leave any issues after installing all that unless your carbs are completly donald ducked.
We had to make some modifications to the linkage plate between the carbs as my manifold didn't leave space for the whole unit to move freely but a hacksaw made easy work of that, little things really, nothing any DIY mechanic/mad man couldn't make fit.
Looks nice too if you're at all bothered.
