Hello,
Have been trying to get distributor parts without having to spend extra to get them from TVR.
Have found that the distributor fitted to my 450 is not the one used for the Land Rover 4.6litre but for their 4.2 litre. Is the engine a bored out / stroked 4.2 then?
Have got a replacement rotor arm Ok. Distributor cap fits but is a different colour (blue - original was black). Sounds silly but I think dizzy caps are colour coded normally - have I got the wrong one? (It runs OK)

As far as I'm aware.... (which isn't very) the 450 are actually only something like 4325(ish)cc and TVR still call it the 450. There was/is a 450BC engine that is something like 4480(ish)cc but that produces something like 320+hp. I know for sure that my 450 Chimaera only produces 280hp which fits in with the 'bible' definition of the 450 (4325cc) engine.
I would be able to give your more accurate figures if I hadn't lent my bible to a friend.
I await correction by more knowledgeable persons.

Hope this is remotely helpful and I’m not just rambling.

Somebody with greater authority will probably be able to give you a difinitive answer. But AFAIK the TVR 450 lump is a straight Rangie 4,6 with minor TVR-Power mods. Don't know why the dizzy would be different (except for bob-weights/springs inside). Colour shouldn't make a difference, they're not coded.

Shredder - are you sure of your capacity? - I think it's 4532cc same as the tractor lump.

Hope this helps until SH gets here!

Rover dizzy bits are getting like rocking horse doodahs and the distributors have changed frequently! Could well be that 4.2 dizzies were available while others were not. Also don't forget that many of the Land Rovers went dizzy less anyway. To be honest asking for Land Rover bits is always a lottery. Asking for Range Rover (Classic for pre-serp) is usually better.

The dizzy cap colour signifies a different manufacturer. Nothing more than that.

No you don't have a 4.2.
