It is not unusual. Not sure how much of your car's early history is known, but I think you have one of the original dealer demo cars (Henley Heritage's), so the car may have had a more carefully bolted together engine, OR they may have done some remedial work early on in its life (the factory never said anything about what changes they made to the engines if they ever went back).

Many owners have opted for a power upgrade before their engine actually needed rebuilding so the 'my engine blew up' rebuild numbers are a bit hard to work out.

That kinda makes a bit of sense because i gave a guy a go in my car that used to have a Tam and he said it felt quicker than his old one. Not sure how i could find out. Or if it really matters.

My car has done 29k and as far as I'm aware it's not been rebuilt. My engine is as sweet as a nut with 60psi cold 12psi hot oil pressure. It's leak and rattle free and uses no oil. Any production engine if treated properly should well exceed these mileages. Even bearing in mind the engines state of tune, if warmed properly, and maintained correctly there is no reason for it to not keep goin for many, many more miles. I build and maintain engines for a living and have had two T350's and I think the speed six is a stonking engine biggrin

You probably have a different final drive in the differential, makes a big difference to how the car pulls under throttle (but no more HP of course). Most cars were 3.46 (or 3.54 - I forget). Some had 3.73, which I'm just guessing yours may have. I have a 3.91 and its brilliant driving

I just spoke to Jason ( formerly of Henleys) and he says he has just done a first rebuild on a Tam that had done 100K without incident he also said that he reguarly sees 60k+ cars that dont require a rebuild. Im firmly starting to believe that all the stuff you hear about the s6 engine is vastly exagerated. I think im gonna stop worrying.

Did he remember your car? (I'm not sure who was there back in 2001/2002 - Henley Heritage seemed to go through a few 'phases' over the past 8 years or so and they are now defunct of course).

Remember that most people only post if they have a problem and most of TVRs reputation is perceived.
Mine is also a former demo car (Racing Green) and as such was very highly specced right from the start - always best to demonstrate all the extras to potential buyers.

Hes going to do some checking for me, calling back this afternoon. How did you know that was who supplied it?

Because that is the only one I have ever seen in your colour and I remember it being used by Henley as a demo car. In fact the first time I saw a Tamora driving on the road was this car zooming off the A404 sliproad Southbound, heading for Henley (long fast bend over a bridge). Immediately made me think 'wow' - the Tamora looks awesome moving along the road.

Assuming there was not another in this colour I have no knowledge of, I don't pretend to be the oracle!

Jason was not at Henley back in those days, he was at the factory. He was always a separate entity/business to Henley, just used some of their workshop space, starting sometime in late 03 early 04 from memory.

I believe he has access to all the old records though.

I couldn't agree more Zippee you only ever hear the horror stories. I'm the sort of person no matter what car I'm in I drive by the gauges and I'm constantly listening for noises so I never fully 'sit back and relax' but Hunter T, I definitely think the bad press these engines receive is a little unfair. So enjoy and try not to worry too much!

I have to admit that I dont really like these threads as you could say it adds fuel to the fire argument of S6 reliability, by us stating that we are amazed our cars have reached 30k miles with no rebuild...

However, for the record:

2004/54 T350C just clocked 36000 miles and at the recent 12k service by TrackVRoad the engine looked to be sweet as a nut. No rebuild by the way.

I dont think anyone one this thread has implied amazment at the s6`s durability. Infact i think this thread reaffirms the reliability of the engine. If there where more threads praising the reliability of the engine instead of the usual doom and gloom of overstated problems, then the casual observer or potential owner viewing this forum would have a more optimistic and positive view on the reliability of our cars! So by all means, post your problems for advice..but balance them with the positives above and beyond the amazing driving experience. Lets try to raise the the way people who arnt "in the know" preceive our cars.

weve done >80K on SP6 engined cars (Tuscan and Sag) ...Sag did 30 odd in 3 years, and was in fine health

...it really is a lottery, the later engines are usually better though...and one thats been used regular and looked after properly

When we buy again next year in order of preference; recent rebuild with warranty car, late engine with some miles on it - 15-20K usually shows up any issues, wouldnt touch a mint 2000 car with 6K on the clock ...done that before, thats got the highest chance IMO of needing a rebuild frown

I'm not at all suprised that there are cars out there that can do (a mere) 30,000 miles without needing a rebuild, I'm suprised how many people have such brilliant cars yet drive them so little.
So I'm happy that you are happy with 30k and no rebuild. I drive my car a bit more than most and fully expect not to need a rebuild, rather than constantly worrying about when I might need one. If I need one I'll get one but until then I'll spend my time enjoying myself and my car.
