E39 rear cup holder pic: Whats missing here?

Found this in pieces when i bought my car, I've put it back together as good as i can and it seems to want to work.

The problem is the arms want to lift up all the time. This causes them to be released by the metal pin . It's as if something is missing that keeps the arms traveling horizontal?

I've bluetacked the arms to show it in it's closed position, without the tak the arms pop up and the cup holder open.

Is there something missing from the assembly?

Good try, but I'd give up & fit the little tray instead - even if you get it as good as new, someone will kick the crap out of it, again - bitter voice of experience...!
