Looking at an X5 towards the cheaper end of the market.

Assuming it's;
Not bent
Has FSH
Carefully looked after

How are they for reliability? We're talking 80k miles onwards, will it be needing a whole suspension overhall at that mileage, or a new autobox?

Something like this;

Will only be doing 6000 miles a year, but it needs to be reliablle. I'm guessing parts are expensive!!

You can get parts from eurocarparts or gsf and they are very well priced.

Avoid the diesel at high mileage unless the turbo has been replaced, most will have expired by 100k miles. Autobox is also fragile above 120k (petrol and diesel). V8s are actually a wise choice if you drive low miles, avoid the 3.0i at all costs as it is not much more efficient than the 4.4 and is really slow in comparison.

Don't know if it's just me but I have noticed quite a few older X5's with what looks like excessive negative camber on the rear wheels. Almost as if the springs have given up.

Anyone else noticed?

I believe its part of the desgin, to aid the handling, but its not so good for the wear on the rear tryes.
