After looking on a few US sites it appears a huge number of 20 x 8.5' alloy wheels exist that will fit the Monaro, will this size fit though running standard suspension?

Monkfish will probably be able to help with this. What greatly reduces your options is the AP's. Do you have standard breaks?

9" x 20 front and 10" x 20 rear, fitted to mine but its a bit of work to do it. Also I have coilovers on the front so more room.
Personally Id go for 19" next time as more choice on tires unless you like spending alot on Michelin Pilots like me! smile

It does mean you can get 285's on the rear which looks nice!

A large amount of standard alloys wont fit over the AP's because of the clearance, or so I'm lead to believe.

I would love to change my alloys as I'm not a big fan of the standard CV8 alloys, but with so many after markets at competetive prices, I just can't stomach paying over a grand (rims only) just so they will fit over AP's.

I'm still waiting for a set of 19" VXR alloys to come up sale somewhere.

There's a guy advertising a pair on pistonheads. I emailed him on the off chance he had the full set, but he only had two left as he had split one going over a pot hole and must have sold the other as a spare.

Had to have rear arch work though didnt you? Im not wanting to go to that extent. Tyres wouldnt bother me too much as I dont do many miles at all and would prefer the better look of the 20's its just whether they would actually fit on the car!

Im looking to do coilovers hopefully early next year but would they help the wheels fit on correctly?

Measure the clearance. With wider wheels and tyres you'll have less. Coilovers have smaller springs as a rule and you'll get more clearance.

Whats the thinnest tyre do you think could get away with on 20 x 8.5 alloys?

Might be able to limit the clearance issues with the tyres, well in theory!

Just checked the website and it shows tyres as fitted with the wheels that are supplied as a size of 225/30/20, the tyres not far too thin!?

If you do upgrade and fancy passing on your 19" VXR's to knock off the cost of your upgrade, keep me in mind please

I'd even be happy to part ex my 18" CV8 alloys if you were planning on keeping a spare set for drag/track days

Me? Cheeky? Nah Guv!

Providing I can get 20's on will definately change them, depending on how quick is how easy they will fit but when done will give you first refusal on the old wheels

I spent some time looking in to this - over here it's probably better to get them made (and pay a small fortune) so I've never committed to anything. A shame as 20s look great. I'd probably only go 265 out back just to get a bit more rubber down.

It must be doable, the std wheels cant be that close to the limits and as they use tyre 245/35/19 replacing those with 255/30/20 is not much bigger, plus if combine it with coilovers I cant see it being difficult.

If they fit on the GTO's fine why would they not fit on our version of the same car?

I'm running 255's on 8 inch CV8 rims and there are no issues other than a very straight tyre wall...

...and costing more to buy...

... and the tyres dont look any wider from the side as the wheel pulls in the width...

... I'm going back to 245's when I've burnt these off....

HTH?
