Well I got a new screen from David Gerald for the Cerb. That WAS an expensive exercise.

£276 for the screen, 25 shipping, 25 insurance, 50 for the cardboard box!! All plus VAT!!!

Total of £436.45.

The box - they say they will refund the 50 quid if you return it; But it would cost £25 to return it, so its hardly worth it.

50 notes for a cardboard box and a few bits of packing foam! Someone is extracting the urine.

Now a salutory tale about getting it fitted. Autoglass said they had consulted their 'technical people' and "it'll take 4 hours at least, the carbon-fibre trims will be destroyed, so it will be 350 pounds."

By contrast, 'Auto Windscreens' looked at the car, said "ah, that's easy, nothing complicated there, £82.00".

Auto Windscreens came the next afternoon and had it done, perfectly, trims undamaged and refitted, in 40 mins.

I shall never darken Autoglass's doors again.

DONT LET THEM DESTROY THE CARBON TRIMS!!

They are easily removed by drilling out the three rivets and then slowly pulling them off (they are stuck on with black sticky stuff)

I would suggest you remove them yourself tbh. They are talking absolute bks! It will also not take 4 hours to fit!

Scroll down the page here re carbon trims...

Consensus seems to be don't use Auto glass.

Read all my post - I didn't let AG near the car, with their stripey jumpers on.

AW fitted it for 82 quid, and of course removed and refitted the trims with no damage at all.

Stupid question: Why didn't you claim on your insurance? only costs you £50-£70 then.

Sorry, just scan read it and wanted to post something quick to prevent that happening.

That's what I will be doing; But I paid originally because I wanted it done fast, for the MOT, and the insurance were being slow!

They wanted AG or AW to source the screen, even though they both said they couldn't!

Auto glass have done two for me. They knew what they were doing, once in the Chimaera and also in the Tuscan. It depends who you get to do it. I met him first to discuss the job since he had done a number of them before. The windscreen came from David Gerald the last time, about a year ago.

on here sorted mine out for me, plus reused the carbon trims after other companies wanted to buy new ones.

Total bill was in the £500 range but they had the car for a couple of days to set the sealant correctly and did an excellent job. Insurance company was happy too as it saved them about £250 on other quotes.

Have you got the later car? They had smaller, shaped trims that were colour coded to the car.

Dave, not sure - it is a 96 and where later cars have the carbon trim I have vinyl stickers covering the door post and part of the windscreen. I was not aware the carb trim was removeable, i wonder if mine has been removed and then these stickers used to replace it (for some reason) they are carbon fibre patterened and embossed with "TVR", but I've not seen them on other Cerbs.

Wow that is strange. Not seen that before.
I guess you'd probably have to resort to the breakers for the real ones, bell hill etc.

Is that just a clever way of covering over the milky edge looks so often seen.

Southendpier, I also have a 96 Cerb and was looking at a later car today. I think that they use a different sort of trim, certainly not the same as on mine.
