Has anyone thought of producing a collapsable roof for the griff/chimp/tamora that works along the lines of that fitted to the vx220 and elise?
Yes, you wouldn't have the rigidity or style but if it was for the summer weekend runs, then you would gain a boot!
I'm no engineer so I haven't got drawings etc.. but I no what a benefit it would be.
Any thoughts... Leven/Zertec.. your thoughts are invited?

Yep, the wedge solution would appear to be halfway to where I was thinking.... the benefits of a flexi' hood are obvious as it would take up very little boot space (or even fold behind a seat??), but then the nightmare is fitting the damn thing in a hurry.

I'll try and get down to a Vauxhall garage this weekend with my camera... to see exactly how their system operates....
I would imagine there would be a reasonable market for this as the Tamora still appears to have an element of skill in stowing the hood...
But the price would have to be sub £200 I think to appeal to a wide audience...?

We discussed this idea last year - my idea was effectively the front and rear edges of the hard top, strung with roof fabric between, then clipped to the rear rigid hoop by over-centre clips. This was tensioned by one or two of the usual alloy struts, which, when extended, were flat to the inside of the roof, and the whole lot would fold behind the seats. The struts would push against the top edge of the windscreen to form the seal. I'm sure it could be done, and I would certainly buy one.
Well it seems similar thoughts all round. Clive is interested in making one if he had enough interest.... but only 5 interested parties I don't think would swing it... guess we'd need to see some form of demo... Clive?

If not, can somebody offer me a suggestion (no, be nice!)
I'm going to have a play around in the spring at making front and rear sections which sit into the usual roof slots, then use ali struts running front to back to join them together.
The only thing I cant think of is something to put into the front and rear sections to stop the ali punching into them. I'm thinking of something sort of top hat shaped so theres a proper cup for the strut to sit into and a lip to stop it punching in. About a dozen monopoly top hats would be perfect!
Anybody got any suggestions about this - or even the entire project?
If not, can somebody offer me a suggestion (no, be nice!)

For the "front and rear sections which sit into the usual roof slots" it's got to be easiest to cut up an old targa section.
For the 'monopoly top hats' I'd suggest rummaging around a hardware store (the "open all hours" kind not the Robert Dyas kind) to find something suitable. Maybe something like a suitably designed drawer knob? I bet it'd be called a 'spigot cap' or something. I love this kind of modification!!

Although the idea of cutting up a roof panel is good, they are a bit expensive to go chopping up - and scarce for that matter.
If I could figure out a way to take a mould quickly I'd get one sharpish before my now repaired roof goes off for recovering.
It is really getting my goat now only having the hard panel roof for the summer. Especially seeing Elises with their fabric jobbie, and even a bleeding smart roadster has a 2-piece panel roof. I don't really care if the fabric roof is just an emergency get home thing you can only use at low speeds I'm going to have a go anyway

How about something like tent material with 4-6 flat metal strips ( 2mmm thick and say 30mm wide) sewn in front to back that sit in the grove either end. Could have a couple width ways too that rotate from the dead centre ( Strip) outwards ( to the side of the car) to give a bit more strength.
Would roll up nice and small. or if you could use similiar thing with a scissor action( like garden trellis )
