Goodyear F1s Opinions?

These tyres seem to win a lot of tyre tests in magazines. All opinions or suggested alternatives from experience on a Cerbera would be appreciated.

Ive run them for the past 4 years on the Cerb (and the Aysmetrics for a year on the Audi). My preferred tyre

+2 both 16" and 17" versions. Not the ultimate track tyre, but great on the road in UK conditions.

Difficult to tell as one set are on a rear wheel drive monster and the other on a 4WD saloon

The 'internet' tells us that the F1A is very VERY good, but has a fast wear-rate - what says someone who has actually got them on his car?

The asy are much better in the wet and I would say as good or even better than the old v shape ones. The nice thing is about these tyers is how progressive the limit of grip is. You can feel you are on the limit and then just play with the car on this limit. Unlike the conti 2s that get to limit at a lower speed then just let go with alot of understear (fwd car). I used the asy f1's for 2 years on road and track and couldn't fault them.

Asymetrics have less road noise than the old GSD3's too...

Id say the Asys wear faster than the GS3Ds (must be over 12,000 miles on the cerb and the tyres still have some life left in them....even after a couple of track days)

If I dont cave in and stick 888s on the Cerb, then the F1s (either) will go back on when the time comes.

I have no problem with wear rate and swear by eagle F1's for grip in all weather conditions. I had asymetric ones when they stopped doing the arrow pattern for a while but now have the GSD3's again - 17" wheels.

I'm trying out Toyo T1-R's on the mx-5 at the moment have swapped from F1's. Jury is still out as I haven't driven the car enough now

Sorry to bring an old thread to life. I have been talking with Mikeinsheffield re new tyres. He and I may go for goodyear F1s. What size at the front though? 225 40 18? I am not sure if the do a 235 but I fancy something less stretched on the front. Anyone bought a set of F1s and been through this thought process?

Can't help with front tyre question as I only have them on the rear but I will agree thet I like them too. However, I did find it took a while for them to settle. They felt like an ankle turning over going into bends until I had done nearly 1000 miles, but now great.

Ive been thinking of putting some triple 8s on, which got me thinking about Toyo's R1Rs, which they tout as a crossover between the T1Rs and the 888s.

Emailed one of the TVRCC Sprint chaps who is running the R1Rs who, in his opinion, thought the F1s a better tyre than the R1R (obviously the 888 is a better track tyre) so Im probably just going to stick another set of F1 GSD3s, providing I can still find them. Would like 235s on the front if they do them?

As Gazzab mentioned - looking at Goodyears.

Both Gazzab and myself run Goodyear F1's - I find them a good all round UK road tyre, with decent enough grip in the wet / crap conditions not to turn the Cerb into a COMPLETE liability (no miracles with RWD, 390+bhp and 1200kg !!) and we're looking to replace. They also worked OK two track days at Cadwell and Rockingham (I'm not looking to shave tenths off my laptimes - just to stay on the black stuff!!!)

Decision here is what size might suit / be available for the fronts (the rears are 255/35/18):

As currently fitted: front 225/35/18
Been recommended to go to a 235 front (as this fits, gives a more vertical sidewall then the slightly angled "out" to the rim of the 225's)
Goodyear don't do a 235/35/18 - they have a 235/40/18 - does this fit / suit / give better handling or turn in thanthe 225/35 ???

Also - my local independant tyre fitter can't seem to get 225/35/18 - but can get 235/40/18

Is this the way to go??????

When I spoke to the motorsport manager at Toyo about the 888s he didn't see a problem with using the 235/40s. I believe that's what the other 888 users have (because afaik Toyo don't do them in 235/35 either)

I think that's the sizing route (albeit sticking with F1s) I will be going down (hopefully help with not kerbing my fronts again!)
