Morning,

I'm having a mid life crisis, which coincided with me been offered my old cerbera..

The car is in pretty good shape but we kow it needs cams, it is a very early 4.2 (number 29 I seem to remember).

Are there any options to upgrade the cams to eek a little more power out of it?

Cheers

general consensus is no, there was a recent thread on cams, should be within the last 3 pages.

Stick with the early 'clatter' cams and spend the money on a bespoke remap from Jools.

You know you'll be getting the best of what's available then.

Can't be many of the very early original lumps left that haven't been changed over due to crank failure tbh. If it is original then there is also a fair chance the clatter cams were changed over to the later whisper (read 4.5) cams too, I don't think it was a recall but dealers went through a period of changing them.
However if it is an early lump in fine fettle enjoy biggrin.

To be fair, the old adage if its not gone by now it never will.....the history on mine shows it had a new engine within a month of the first owner having it. The engine was changed again a few years later......... and I picked it up after it had gone a third time, just over 3 years ago yikes I had it rebuilt as a large journal 4.5 with a billet crank wink.

Joking aside I think more stayed together than handgrenaded themselves.

The engine is pretty much as it was when it left the factory apart from said worn cams. The first owner damaged the sump which was a factory job to get fixed. Apart from that it is pretty much as was.

It always felt very, very fast, possibly in part to it tipping the scales at 1100kg with a tank of fuel on board (I think the later ones, even the lightweights are a fair bit heavier).

I need to work out asmile do I really need it
bsmile can I justify it
csmile can I find a garage on my street to shove it in.

I suspect you lot might be helpful with the answers to a + b wink

I four corner weighted mine once at Rockingham on a race weekend and it came out around 1080 with 3/4 tank of fuel.
