I have a job interview in Aberdeen in a couple of weeks and so want some advice on getting to and from Aberdeen from Edinburgh.

Is car the best way?
If yes, what route?
What are trains like?
Are there any flights available?

Cheers all.

I would go by car, it is only 2.5 hours and it is a straight road once over the Forth.

Train takes just over two hours. Centre to Centre. Where is your interview?

I would take the car (I would say that). The only pain is the unbelievable amount of cameras from Dundee on to Aberdeen. It should take a couple of hours at a nice pace.

Bear in mind the time you will be arriving and where you are going in Aberdeen, can take a good 45mins to get across town in rush hour.

2 hours if the traffic is quiet.

Watch out for speed cameras on the A90 though, there are loads between Schumdee and Aberdeen.

Flights are available but you'd be as well getting the train or car. I've done the trip many a time on the train (ex lived there) and it's fine enough. As mentioned around 2.5 hours. Depends where about the interview is though, as Justin said, to which is best.

Flying would be a bit daft - it would take about 20 minutes!

Car - quickest straight up A90 takes around 2 hours, also gives you most flexibility when here.
Trains are st. The route stops everywhere between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Only positive was that when National Express ran the trains you got free wifi. Not sure if this is still the case with them losing the franchise.

Best finding out where the interview is, as others have said, it can take a while to get across the city.

Cheers to all for the replies.

Interview is at Bristow Helicopters, so I assume it would be at the airport, but I never like to assume things.

Seems like the car is going to be the easiest way, with the emphasis on scamera awareness.

Train to dyce surely?

Taxi or bus round to the other side of the Airport, has to be easier/quicker than taking the car?

Yes they're right beside the airport. I would still drive if I were you (although you can get the train to dyce which is a £5 taxi away from the airport)

The airport is in Dyce. That is at the north of the city. I can easily take 45 minutes to an hour to get from the centre of Aberdeen to Dyce (7 miles) at rush hour.

I'd still be inclinded to take the car.

Edinburgh trains run by First Scotrail normally go all the way to Dyce. Though you'd have to check on how often they do as it isn't as often as you'd hope. Also when you get off at Dyce (it is one of the smallest stations) there may not be any taxis, but there are local firms who you could call.

Yes Bristows is at the back, but... if you know the way you can miss out Aberdeen city centre completely and come in just west at Kirkton of Skene.
I'd still take the car,and allow an extra 45 if interview is anywhere near 9. Also town starts to get busy about 15:30 onwards heading out.

Oh, if only Aberdeen has some sort of, like, route that went around it's periphery. I think I'll put my idea to the cooncil.

Dunno, I'm sure some people would object to something like that.

If you take the A90 and hit the bypass at about 7am you can be there just before 9. However you will hit traffic in Dundee but typically it keeps moving so isn't so bad.

The train takes longer when you add your travelling time to the station. The ticket usually costs more than the petrol. An 'advance open return' will set you back about £70.

As mentioned watch for speed cameras but you can't do much more than 70 in most sections anyway.

Best of luck with your interview.
