i saw it for sale at a brands hatch track day, was more or less going to buy it on the spot...then i looked into it and found out about the cat C...nice looking car, but i don't need to be driving around a track in something i have the slightest doubt about..oh it was up for £38.5k last year by the private seller who owned a salvage yard in essex somewhere.

They don't mention the "CAT C" in the advert. Can anyone remind/educate me in exactly what a "CAT C" means about the history of the car?

TIA

from memory Daz,,i thought it was a cat D the seller told me the car had been rebuilt from a heavy smash. As far as I was concerned the car was a write off put back on the road, so i walked......however don't want to be too harsh,,it may well have been autolined and be as straight as a die now and a good purchase for someone at the right price.

CAT A... basically nothing left
CAT B... Very Bad damgae should not go back on the road
CAT C... Quite Heavy, but ok to repair
CAT D... Fairly light, but obviously enough for Ins.Co To consider uneconomic

Hope the above helps

hmmm....I wonder why they've neglected to mention that fact in the advert then?....Who are "Fuchs"?

Of all the categories, I believe that Cat D is the only one where the official description gives a nod to the fact that the car can be safely repaired...

He was very honest about the car....infact I asked him if he had the 3 and the 4 the wrong way round.

He told me straight away it is a Cat "c" and it had no service history. He says he has sold 5 RS's this year and that this is the best looking of all of them.

Apparantly H & S are coming to collect on Monday.

Does anyone know what that "low mileage" is that`s recorded on it?

"Unmolested" could be interpreted as being free of bother, irritation, trouble, worry ,etc. So, is there someone out there that is not at all concerened about a Cat C classification?

IMHO its defo. £5K too cheap for a car that`s perfect!

David,,somebody out there not concerned about the cat C !!!! sure there are some nutters about, but in terms of re-sale this car has been knocking about for a year.
If you paid £5k more for an RS in good order you would have peace of mind and in terms of selling you would have a far greater audience interested.
personally I do not think this car is cheap at all.

Hmmm so cynical cap on- car goes out to H&S where it will get German registration, will not be on the german crash register & will simply be sold as a clean RS with no history!

Well unless perhaps some history is, err how do I phrase this, err *ahem* 'found' so when the ink has dryed on the service book it should then reach £40k+ quite easily as an H&S car then....

'Ya voll ve is no dumkoff viff de selling of RS's in ze fartherland to dumkoff englanders'.....

Cynical, moi....

Anyway nice & un spanked 993RS's can be found at £35K if you look hard enough, mind you I do admit there are some absolute & utter tracked to death howlers out there too!!

This raises a point that I've always wondered about - Why is it that some people tend to shy away from certain RS's saying that they've been 'tracked to death' when that it what the car was surely made for?

I always read comments from people such as 'Porsche's are built to be driven' and 'bulletproof', but some people will avoid a car such as this if it's been tracked, when I'd bet a pound to a penny that within a month of owning a 'cossetted' example they'd be thrashing it down the runway at Brunters!!

Just wondered what everyone's take was on this - what's the difference between simply being 'tracked' and 'tracked to death'

Chris

A cat C 993RS was doing the rounds a year or two ago, silver I believe. Rubystone mentioned it to me, IIRC. I think it was low 30s, with the owner perhaps taking 30k on the head as he was having difficulty shifting it.

Interestingly, in the old dealership merrygoround, RSJ now have that yellow 993 Turbo S in stock at 58k. In Slough, so closer for Southern tyrekickers - CS are you still interested? Joel may give you a PH discount

CS I think that you are absolutly right! If this car is pretending to be perfect, just to hook someone based on RS rarity, VFM and nice shiny blue paintwork...that`s very, very naughty IMHO.

It`s not collectable, it has no history and who knows, it might drive like pig as well. I wonder what it`s true worth really is?

I know that I would have a straight 993RS for £35K today, if I could find one that was any good!

The silver one that was being hawked about some time ago was pretty dire. I saw it at Oulton Park and you could tell from 30 feet it had suffered a major impact. I think between £10 & £15k would have sorted it out. It was originally AFN's demo car and had a massive front ender.
