I'm thinking about getting a quaife LSD for my 130i to try and quell some of the wheelspin particularly in the wet.

Has anyone got any experiences of the 1 series fitted with this diff?

Also would anyone else be interested? I'm pretty certain a decent discount would be available if there are a few takers. PM me if you would like details.

Damn, if i hadn't just done this i'd have been interested in a group buy! biggrin

I presume you're talking about the Quaife ATB right? IMHO this works better on the road than a standard plate type diff. Doesn't introduce understeer like a plate diff does.

It's brilliant. Amazing. In the dry you get so much more drive out of corners because you're not lifting an inside rear wheel and spinning the power away, and in the wet it's more difficult to get it to slide in the first place (grip is much better) but if you can provoke it to slide it's much easier to hold it out there drivingbiggrinnuts

I'd recommend it for sure.

More grip but more provakable oversteer sounds like what I'm after.

It'll go with the intake you sneaked on while we weren't watching then.... wink

Have fun with it guys, i just don't have the spare cash at the mo' - still trying to find enough for the exhaust.

The Quaife ATB diff WON'T quell any wheelspin in the wet (or dry) but rather drive is distributed to both wheels rather than just one...i.e both wheels will be spinning rather than just one uselessly.
They are worth every penny thumbup

Good point, I should have been clearer, as you say the problem is with one wheel spinning all the power away when exiting a corner.

It's strange how BMW doesn't even offer this as an option anymore. They did in the past... maybe they think that the traction control will achieve the same result but all it seems to do is cut the power when you least want it cut if that makes sense.

TCS is just a cheap simple con to the vast majority of joe public, and is useless PITA for anyone that actually knows how to drive.
The trouble is driving with a LSD or a ATB does require a certain technique, which unless you've been told/taught etc can cause you to visit the scenery more easily than with a 'safe' open diff and tcs, which is why the manufacturers go that route.

IIRC the 130i has an e-diff that is activated when you turn the traction control off.

Apologies, you are correct. The 123d and 135i have the e diff.

123d doesn't have an e-diff (its got all the DSC bits bar the e-diff) , 135i does and theres a diff group buy being discussed on babybmw.
