Speed trap on A9
Discussion
Speed trap on A9 last Saturday. It's a fairly common one but perhaps the most cynical. As you're heading south on the A9 just past Slochd Summit, the dual carriageway changes to 2-way traffic (i.e., 70 to 60 mph limit). It's a long sweeping corner, no junctions (i.e., as safe as any section of the A9 is). Right at the change in speed limit a camera van was sitting. A friend of mine was slowing down between the two zones but got a ticket for doing 71mph and has now 9 points on his license. Miserable b@stards...
Don't know enough about these things but could be worth appealing on or getting some legal advice on, depending on how far inside the limit he was.
OK, as soon as you hit the sign the limit starts there, and you see the sign in advance so should start slowing down prior to that.
However, its very sneaky as you describe and one that, considering his points tally, he may well want to fight. However having said that, it may be that his points tally would work against him though that shouldn't be taken into account?

There's no excuse for being caught by a Scamera van on the A9! Visibility is usually good enough to see a transit-sized van at the side of the road, miles away.....
The cops hidden behind bushes, trees and up driveways are more of a risk.
The guy with 6 points getting caught at 71 doesn't have very good observational skills!!!
