Has anyone enquired whether the new Typhon Supercharged Speed Six can be retrofitted to the Cerb S6 or tusc, tam, t350 et al ?

Assuming the supercharger could be physically packaged into a Cerb engine bay I'm wondering whether it would be hugely costly to upgrade my S6 engine over and above the fixed costs of a rebuild.

On one hand I would assume that many internal components would be lightened and toughened, compression ratio lowered to take the strain, new ECU to control fuelling etc.

On the other hand I'd guess it's more cost effective for TVR to manufacture generic engine components shared across the S6 range (unless specific highly stress parts bits are prohibitively expensive) so maybe it is more of a bolt on blower & new ECU than a complete engine rework ?

Could represent good value.

Isn't the Typhon s6 a 4.2 so will not share all the components with the other engines?

I'm not sure, but if it is I'm sure the capacity increase is a small bore out of the existing block & with bigger pistons but same head rather than something fundamental.

At a rough guess (and it is only a guess) I would suspect a bolt on blower. Reasons?

Well for one I read it will only be using 0.7 bar of boost. The other reasons are the cost/complexity issues you cited below.

The sp6 seems to be more sorted now but even so I would leave it a while before jumping in with a supercharged version.

Any idea what sort of blower TVR are going to use? Some of the centrefugal ones look very easy to package, but the roots and screw types are much harder to package.

The article in Evo this month states that a 600bhp version of the Typhon could be available....imagine that!
(bit off the topic from retro fitting the supercharger i admit!)

James here:

I understand the Typhon engine is a larger capacity(not totaly sure), runs a lower compression ratio(therefore different pistons or head or crank etc), it will need a new ECU and is likely to have alot of intake mods.

Therefore it could be quite priccy to swap engines.

This would be nice but we'll have to wait and see. Sadly most car companies just bolt on a turbo/supercharger because it is much cheaper (A3, calibra turbo etc), it is not often that you get a totally redesigned head to go with it (sierra cosworth).

The cheapest option (and therefore most likely IMHO) is lower compression pistons (dished crowns?), maybe a thicker head gasket and then some ECU mods (probably restricted to a simple remapping of fuelling and ingition advance).

Peter, agree that packaging would be difficult unless you want a 'bug catcher' sticking out of the bonnet

as the S6 engine is angled to the side the supercharger should fit in nicely...without the need for a huge bug catcher !

Check the news. The Sagaris Challenge Car will have a supercharger, so it seems to be entirely possible.

Check greenv8s' post.

Nobody said it was impossible, just that certain types of supercharger are easier to package than others.

I read somewhere (perhaps autocar) it's a centrefugal supercharger, and I can't really understand why TVR would bother making the investments adding 0.2cc requires for a small % hp gain when they they are bolting on a supercharger that gives them 30%+ more horsepower.

Wonder how significant the head work really is ? Surely best to avoid the cost and uncertainty that brings if there's a simple alternative (low comp pistons) ??
