Bad night...

10.00pm - visit girlfriend in Gosforth, Newcastle. Park outside her apartments in the developments car park

11.15 - Go back to car to find drivers window smashed in and Sat Nav gone!


Little Bu***rs made a serious mess, glass literally everywhere! tiny bits of glass all over car, devastated if it leaves scratches when i attempt to remove it.

Now need a new drivers window fitted, anybody got any suggestions of a good cheap place to go or an idea of the cost?

Insurance as only £50 excess normally and no affect on no claims. Autoglass should be able to source a new one as will all the others. If really stuck email me.

autoglass just quoted £285 for it. i have a £70excess but just worried it will effect no-claims!! shouldn't though should it?

I'd check what your policy says about glass. Of course, if it's a broken windscreen due to a stone then it's covered ( maybe £50-£100 excess ) and will not affect NCD ( I've had 4 replaced as I recall over the years ) but I'm not sure if it's the same if it's damage due to theft. After all, a stone chip is just one of those things that you can't do anything about, but smashing a window to steal something is a different matter. I'm not saying I know for sure, but I'd check.

i had the same happen to me i rang all the window companys they dont have the glass but i got one from noble they had a spair cost me £75 allso told me the glass is made in south africa and has to be imported

As horrid as it is, i am not one bit suprised either. Personally i leave all my glove boxes open (now i don't own the Nobbler) and when i use my sat nav i hide it away and wipe the screen to lose tell tale rings.

Everyone knows you don't leave Sat Nav's visible even in cars that don't invite attention. Some times the truth isn't palatable but that doesn't make it go away.

And indeed i really appreciate the comments Mr Cundy and M3144, they really have proved useful!!! Because i am a little slow and not very streetwise!

FYI, i was visiting my girlfriend for 1 hour and parking in her private car park in a nice part of town. I left my Sat Nav on the floor after pulling it off the windscreen. Someone obviously spotted the car and went out of their way to investigate it!

Unfortunately there are some out there!

Oh, and my insurance (Admiral multicar) covers it, and any other glass on the car, so it is just the £70 excess. The part is coming from Noble directly.

You haven't apologised for increasing our premiums yet

Good luck with the repair - we all feel for you and most have probably had similar experiences in the past so now how pissed off you feel - don't dwell on it as it won't change anything.

EDIT - time to play with the car and add electric windows whilst you have one side out!

I heard an interesting thing about multicar recently, is it true if you claim you loose NCB on all of the cars?

No, that's not true. I've just (two minutes ago) asked them that exact question and you only lose the NCB on the car you're claiming for. As you'd expect.
