Not sure if this has been posted anywhere but Boris has bked the TfL for ruining a trademark and a piece of history:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8260943....

Too fking right he should do that... TfL is just fking about with stuff everyone knows, just for more money and sneaky fare increases... essentially it hides where you are, making it more confusing to tourists and taking off the zone areas so you are more likely to buy the wrong ticket....

All because some penpusher decided the map was TOO BUSY at the moment.

If it aint broke why fix it?

I think heads should roll for this waste of money!!

Proves the point, that the people who run TfL lack any common sense.

It's not exactly complicated is it? A blue line that is labelled "River Thames", so why omit it anyway? It doesn't exactly look like any ofthe tube lines anyway.

Also the term "it's south/north of the river" is still extensivly used. A bit difficut to see if a tube station is north/south of the thames if the river isn't on there. Sounds like the change was made by someone for changes sake to justify their position as being contributory. I'd take the cost of changing it all again out of their salary(s).

Working with mapping (web based apps, not paper) and it's a contunial compromise on quantity of information versus comprehensibility.

It's no different with the paper medium.

Essentially the river is a relatively unobtrusive feature on the map, the zones themselves were hardly all that complicated but the tube map has always been about planning a route from A to B not about locating you on the map and where the tourist attractions are.

Must've been a slow news day when this got the BBC local reporter frothing at the mouth. Most of the people interviewed by 'the man on the street' couldn't give a toss either way.

Stupid idea to remove the Thames, good on him to tell them to put it back.

Good on Boris! Rather novel for a politician to be doing what the population actually wants though. I'm sure Gordon would take a dim view of something so dangerously close to democracy.
