"Based on the classic novel by Oscar Wilde, Dorian Gray tells the story of a strikingly beautiful young man named Dorian (Ben Barnes). He arrives in Victorian London and is swept into a social whirlwind by the charismatic Henry Wotton (Colin Firth), who introduces Dorian to the hedonistic pleasures of the city. When a portrait of Dorian is unveiled, such is it’s beauty that he makes a pledge: he would give anything to stay as he is in the picture – even his soul.

Dorian Gray examines the destructive power of beauty, the blind pursuit of pleasure and the darkness that can result".

Don't know why but this really intrigues me

Does look interesting but there's been a movie about this character before - league of extraordinary gentlemen a few years back.

Still - nothing like a good immortal movie for a bit of entertainment. Think the cgi punchup between werewolf and vampire near the end of van helsing.

I liked the character in that film but he was one of a number of characters, this new film is all about him.

There was a previous film called The Picture of Dorian Gray

I might see if I can find a copy.

I vaguely remember seeing the old 1940s version as a kid.

The film is a good one, and it has Jessica Fletcher in it, a good old Victorian sci-fi novel.

Will the new one be any good?

I saw this a couple of months ago. It passed the time, but to be honest, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Hard to pin down why, but I don't think it's the era, the period costumes and such seemed pretty good.

Just not my film.

(For the record, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was such tosh that I never finished it. That is rare for me.)

Will Self wrote a very good adaptation, titled "Dorian" both that and O.Wilde's original are a very good read. Will Self's does have a cock on the front though..... rolleyes
