Nope - different number of studs. Could in theory change all the studs on the wheels to cope with the change, but the cost would be astronomical - hundreds and then the wheels and tyres - you might as well buy a Tuscan or Cerbera for the difference....

Sorry.

Not saying that its not possible, but the Chimaera is a 4 stud hub while a Tuscan / Tamora / T350 / T4x0 and Cerbera are all 5 stud.

You might be able to find a alloy maker who does 4 stud wheels that look like the 5 stud ones, but you might have to look.

Incidentally the official TVR wheel upgrade to "spiders" involves a hub change and potentially a brake upgrade (hence the cost). Even then they are 16" (I think) as going to 17" is difficult and 18" even harder. You run into problems with rubbing on the body work and a really harsh ride - because the newer models were designed to take the bigger wheels they are much better.

To be honest, either stick to what you have, or upgrade to some nice stylish ones like Racing Dynamics or TSW - they do some good ones in the right size and offset for direct replacements - an look the bees knees...

I've produced a Flash website to show what the Chimaera would look like with different wheels.

Chimaera Wheels

If only the 18 spiders would fit!

Hope you like it...enjoy!

(ps. you'll need Flash, 1024x768 resolution and Broadband - it's about 0.5Mb)

I would love to fit them - the dark silver ones!

Why wont they fit? If you used really low profile rubber (30 or 35), i dont think the overall diameter of the wheel changes that much.

I seem to remember from a past post that it is the width of the rear wheels that cause the problems. Can you not just use a set of front Tuscan wheels on the rear of the Chimaera (i.e. front spiders all round) - i'm assuming Tuscan's have front's are narrower than the rears?!

If it was possible, wonder how much an 18" Spider upgrade would cost? (including the brakes etc from 16" factory upgrade)

£2500?

IIRC the wheels are the same front and back and whilst they could fit on the rear (perhaps with minor adjustments) they will not fit on the front without fairly major surgery. I reckon your the man to do the surgery though so let us know the cost and send us the pic's when you've done it!

Seriously cool comparator James, very nicely done and don't bigger wheels make a hell of a difference.
