I'm off to buy an Elise tomorrow, but it has one flaw which is causing me mild concern.

Its an S1 with a K-Series with 65k on the clock, and it runs fine.

2000 miles ago it suffered HGF, was fixed, the job appears properly done (invoice shows through bolts, new type gasket, cam belt done at same time. Head was skimmed 8 thou, and pressure tested.

The only issue with the car upon inspection, is the colour of the header tank and the fluid within.

The tank is badly stained with rust - presumably from the metal water rails etc. The fluid leveel inside is at about 1/3 so slightly low, and the fluid within is not the bright pink I might expect it to me. Its a murky brown colour.

So is this a problem or just the aftermath of the HGF where perhaps the system has not been flushed through and the coolant has picked up loads of much, or could it be something far more sinister?

that's pretty typical....

I would not be concerned about it.

As Simon says, pretty standard stuff. Coolant level is regularly lower than the indicator.

Buy a new one for £20 once you're the proud owner...

So when is the engine coming out for something better? Can't see you in a standard car Arnie?

I'm fitting a Duratec to mine at present biggrin

I would be very worried.

If repairer can't be bothered to flush out the coolant system - what does that say for the rest of his work?

HGF if not rectified properly may happen again pretty damn quick.

My advice would be to walk
