I have a 1992 plate on a 2006 monaro. The plate was made yonks ago for a previous motor so was bought at a time when all this bureaucratic nonsense concerning info that must be shown came into being. So it doesn't show any details of who madeup the plate, postcodes, etc.

Is the tester at liberty to fail the car for this reason?

no, so long as the plate is legal in regards size and font there should be no problem. They certainly dont fail 1980s cars if they havent had the plates updated

The BS AU 145 and the postcode bit are not part of the current MoT test. They are, however, still a legal requirement, just not an MoT fail.
